Case Knife Identification

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Knife Identification

Post by Cindig40 »

I am trying to identify a Case knife that I've had for a number of years. It's a Case Centennial from 1989. The Tang markings are hard to read and don't match what I've been able to find. Just looking for some help and/or clarification. The Tang says CT1048 (I think) but makes no sense to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to AAPK! You have come to the right place, but some pictures of the knife in question would help a lot. I'm not a good resource on anything more recent than about mid-1970s but someone who knows will probably be along and answer your question.

Your knife would be a one blade pattern #048 (slim trapper) with Christmas Tree celluloid handles . It is not actually a centennial knife (that is , one of the 100 piece set) although it was made in 1989 . It is part of a Christmas Tree set of 5 or 6 knives made that year .

Thanks for the info. Now I know what I have and I can start looking for the rest of them to complete the set. I have carried this knife everywhere I go and been to many Case Dealers across the country and not one of them has been able to identify this knife. I've never seen another one like it and thought I was losing my mind, when I couldn't get anybody to identify it.

Thanks Again!

Here is a link to a set that is for sale on ebay . The pictures are poor for the most part , but the third pic shows your knife in the center . Now you can see what other knives to look for .
