The old Case with the Bowtie

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Hey driveshaft,

Still would love to see the pic you said you would post on this knife in your other 2 inquiries on the forum. Kinda left all us that are helping out hanging a bit.

I assume you are referring to the same knife in these 2 posts, now a third. Please correct me if I am wrong. If I am wrong, I apologize but sure sounds like the same knife still with no requested/promised pics in the first and second posts.

Spent a little time researching the possibilities you might have but the reciprocity is just not happening to help you out. I assume any knife mechanic willing to take on the restoration will want to see a pic also.

No problem. Everyone here obviously wants to help you. We are just beyond the "maybe we can figure it out by description" stage of the game and need pics to help you further. We are chasing our tails without pics on this one.

Looks like a Case 61050 frame that someone has fitted with a crude blade to me.

With IM here. Looks like an old 61050C that was crudely rebladed and repinned.

Certainly looks old and could be a repair that was done long ago. Original looking pre-1920 Case frame and handles but looks like a different blade of some kind was installed. Consistent deep corrosion on all the carbon steel tells me it may have been mated together like this for a long time. Love that old jigged bone. I bet this one could tell some stories. Thanks for getting some pictures up!

It's value in that condition is no more than any other parts knife. It needs to be mated up with the correct blade from the period it was made to restore any true value. I have an old Case blade from that era that looks to be large enough, but there's no way of knowing if it's the correct blade without having both of them together.

There's no way of knowing if mine is the right blade for your model or not without having it in hand. Case blades from that era rarely had the model number stamped on them, so it would be a total crap shoot. I could end up with that frame sitting here for quite a while or there's a chance I might get lucky. While I've never considered myself a gambling man, I have been married three times. ::facepalm:: How about you send me a PM with your best price on it and we can take it from there. I might even have something I've customized laying around you might take for it.

That model is too short for the blade I have and isn't worth the asking price even it the handle weren't cracked.
