Valleyforge Folding knife

Post by eyeselect »

This is an old Valleyforge Cutlery folding knife. It's about 7 3/4 inches long when it's open, and about 4 5/8 inches closed. It has a good amount of side to side wobble in its locked position. The jigged bone handle looks to be in perfect condition. If anyone knows anything about this knife please post a comment. I would like to know if the blade is supposed to be as short as it is (3 1/16 inches)

I find the easiest way for me to determine correct blade length is to view the knife closed and see where the tip of the blade rests in the frame. If you happen to know the correct length that is better yet but in most cases I do not know and have nothing to compare the knife to. The blade does look short to me. I would think if proper length the tip would be at least to the highest point of the swell in the frame.

Most people selling on eBay do not show a picture of the blade tip as it sits in the frame when the knife is closed. One picture is worth a thousand words.

Looks short to me too, although the swedge is rather convincing.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for advice! It makes a whole lot of sense. I'd have to agree with you.
The knife is very old. I'm not sure about the details but Boker bought Valley Forge Cutlery in 1899.
Here's a couple of pictures with the knife closed.

The blade should be at least 3 3/4" long, that one looks short.

Still a rare and desirable old knife ::tu::

Thanks Dimitri,
I also think it's still a good looking knife.
