Another work of art from Colin Paterson

Post by Bryan »

Colin (Realmontanan) sent me this picture of his first real effort at making a 100% custom knife. I think he did pretty good.... Actually, great is more like it IMO.

VERY cool... ::tu:: ::tu::

That looks like what we in the desert use to skin scorpions for scorpion stew.

Only prettier!

here is the description...

A Hidden Tang, Dropped Point Skinner......

This 7 1/4" skinning knife quietly proclaims its Scagel style influence
with stacked mycarta,
brass, and the main beam of a Whitetail deer taken by the maker. While
the hefty grip of the
knife offers the user powerful leverage on the broad blade. The
antler's crown has been
replaced with a solid brass pommel which is pierced by the stainless
steel revealing the
hidden tang tradition of these knives.
The 3 1/4" blade is made from 1/8" ATS-34 Stainless Steel from
Hitachi.... a stainless steel similar to 154CM.
It has been hand polished to a semi gloss finish and hand rubbed to a
razor like sharpness.
Paterson does his own heat treating using his Electric Knife Kiln by
Evenheat. This blade has
been tempered to an R/C 58-59.

Colin has sent me 4 of his custom made knives to look at. I'm in the process of persuading him to sell some of his stuff on the AAPK Blades website. Stay tuned for some more very nice things from him; (If all goes as planned that is). Very tallented this Colin is, and the world needs more of his stuff IMO, so I'm trying to do my part.
