norlund unmarked hatchet head?

Post by almyjmoore »

I bought this unmarked hatchet head today and it looks very much like a Norlund only slightly smaller. Is it a copy cat or did Norlund make it for another compan-y

The pattern pre-dates Norlund's manufacture of it. With no way to date it, that unmarked head could pre-date or post-date the Norlund.

That said, it is a nice find!

That pattern is common in Europe. Particularly on the continent. It probably dates back well over 300 years.

Thanks guys. I have half a dozen Norlund axe and hatchet heads so when I see that shape I think Norland. I didn't consider that Norlund could have copied someone else.

That's a great link Dimitri. I just figured out that my neighbor's dad owned Mann Edge Tool Co.
