Our son in laws birthday was yesterday and I would like to give him a knife, but not a real expensive one. I am afraid he will lose it or something. I know it is a Case XX 6249. I tried looking it up myself but do not know if it is red bone or what. Thank you

ETA: Ok so I am looking on a price guide for this pattern and see that it has different years, how do I tell the year? I don't see dots or stars????
