Amazing price for this one!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Case-XX-USA-197 ... 7675.l2557
I can't imagine why that knife went so high. Those are somewhat scarce as 1976 was the first year of production, but I have never known there to be much collector demand for the 051 pattern. I guess I'm wrong!

Do you suppose the price could reflect an intrest in bi-centenial items? Treefarmer

Steve ,
I just did a little detective work on this deal and something is very "fishy" . It was purchased by one of the most "respected" knife expert/dealers in the business today . You can purchase a similar knife from him at a show for $25 - $35 . I won't mention his name here , but I am sure that many of us have dealt with him . Unfortunately , I dealt with him for the last time at the Tarheel show last Aug. .

Re: Amazing price for this one!!
ummmm.... WOW! only ole sporty could pull that off errr ummm with a little help perhaps? Buyer has around 80 bids last 30 days with 64% with this seller... Fishy you say? Good eye Steve. Remember how drastic Some Case knife price values would change from book to book written by James Parker? Perhaps someone has several hundred of these and this is the beginning of a long process to slowly raise the value by getting the ebay completed listings up... Since everyone uses or points others to ebays completed listings for current market value... HELLO.... Latest scam over the long haul maybe... Sometimes you just have to READ THE KNIFE to see if there is any big value to it as far as workmanship and materials used. I myself do not see more than maybe 1/4 of what this one sold for. If it were made by PUMA in Solingen Germany using stag I don't think it would bring that much... But what do I know?????

Bob; Thanks for replying. One reason that I posted this is that I also know who the buyer was. Had the buyer been someone of limited knowledge, the high bid could be written off as a mistake. However knowing the buyer makes this a mystery. This particular buyer seems to buy a lot from this particular seller.robinetn wrote:Steve ,

Hey Steve,
As Bob and yourself stated, something is WAY OFF on this transaction. I too know the dealer and have dealt with him many times. Unless he had someone already lined up to buy the knife at $500, this makes no sense whatsoever, nor would buying the knife at that price make any sense. Very bizarre indeed. Be very curious to know the real story on this one. Nice pattern, I own a few. If I could sell my 76' example for one -third of that I would have done extremely well. Very odd!
