Authentic Buck 117 Folder NOW UP FOR SALE

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

Roger,

300Bucks here, which describes my hobby of the 300 series of Buck folding knives. If I win the powerball lottery tomorrow night I will use buy it now for this knife. :D But I will never be able to own one I fear.....I am giving the 300 series seminar at the Buck collectors club national meeting in August at SMKWs in Tenn. May I copy your photos to use in my seminar. Via powerpoint presentation.

The info on your dad's sporting goods store and Buck knife was interesting.
Good luck on the sale. ::tu::

300Bucks,
My sincere apologies, but I was unclear in my posting. I am not the owner nor the seller. I am just a huge Buck fan myself, and wanted to pass on this info to anybody that might be interested. I've had this model 117 on about twenty different search alerts for years, and have never had the good fortune to run into one till now. Unfortunately, I too am not in a position to purchase.
I beleive the owner/seller is Tom George. You definately can reach him thru the GunBroker.com "Contact seller" link.
I live close to SMKW, so I will hopefully meet you at your presentation in August!
Good luck, Roger

Well, Roger in that case,

I have seen this for sale a least one time before. The price may be of a value to the seller due to it's family attachment but I am guessing there will be little interest at that price. Even some really hard nose Buck collectors think it is too high. Even the factory does.

Oh, I would love to find, even a rough one, at a swap meet for $35 dollars but as time passes that old stuff that is not widely watched for disappears into the thrown out black hole.

See you a SMKWs 300Bucks

300bucks,
Yes, I'd like to run into one at an estate, flea, yard or garage sale-but I know now thats not gonna happen. Finding a #1 Superman or a Honus Wagner card would be easier to find than this knife. The pure rarity & scarcity of this model; its early historical significance in Buck knifemaking- Hoyt Buck handmade; the excellent condition; and the excellent provenance- all make this an awesome find at a legitimate price for someone. Put this knife in a upscale auction like Martins and it'd go higher, in my honest opinion.

The proof will be in the pudding so to speak. I don't follow Gunbroker so if it sells come back and let me know....... I will go back to watching for a small yellow Buck barlow or a hot stamped 315 yachtsman.....maybe not expensive but rare.......

So it sold for under $700.

Who is the new owner?

Some photos would be much appreciated.

Did Hoyt Buck always use the same model of the Camillus lifeboat folder for all of the 117s he made? Some, I have two of the Camillus knives, have brass liners while others have steel liners.

Anyone...

A few pics of the raw material, Camillus Boat knives, for your amusement:

I saw such a knife at the 2008 OKCA show in Eugene Oregon.
The explanation I got of the knife from Joe Houser, Buck Company Historian, was different than the story in the Gun Broker auction.

I suppose both could be true.

Here is the link to the story as I posted it in April 2008:

I would be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.

It seems like a good fun project to hunt and peck for the Hoyt Buck modified knives from the days gone bye. Check every vintage pocket knife everywhere right now. If you happen to find one with "BUCK" on the blade then have Buck verify its authenticity. I wouldn't want any to end up on the rust heap. They would be better off preserved for enthusiasts to archive and enjoy.
