Slipjoint and blade size..

Post by FOG »

Im wondering at what blade size does it become inadvisable to make a slippy. I ask because i have a 4in long by 1in wide and 1/8th thick blank cut out, and im wondering if it would be to much for it to work well as a slippy.

Thanks,Bryce

with folders add at least 3/4" (usually 1" or a shade more) to the blade length and you'll have your handle length, you're looking at around a 5"- 5 1/2" handle so it would be the size of a cokebottle, or folding hunter, good size IMO

My Father-in-Law has a folding fillet knife with a 5" blade 1/16" thick. But, the handle is at least 5.5" long or longer like MM said. I wouldn't want one much longer than that myself.

But, the size you're talking is just about right for a large folder.

Post pics when it's done please!!!
God Bless!
