Tested 6275LP 1920-40 Factory Second

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Tested 6275LP 1920-40 Factory Second

Post by XxTestedxX »

Very pleased to own this.

Factory second, likely sold by salesman for $1.00

The knife reads like a book and in hand I feel like the story easily unfolds.

Thanks MS

Great old knife! A moose is one of my favorite patterns.
What do you see, other than the stamps being ground, that makes this a 2nd?

There is a small ding in the liner where the nail pull is (pile side) and slight alignment issue when closing the spey. Easily adjusted but the ding wouldn’t have been able to be removed. I imagine the quality control standards would have stopped the finishing process and marked a second for a discounted price. The blades aren’t fully polished and have the original pre finish appearance.
The stamps (what remain) are crisp and what you’d expect with square distinct ends.

The the story of why it would be a second and why it would still be sold is read when looking it over, still a good knife, just not perfect as many that were put out. iMO of course (we can only speculate on a life that’s nearly 100 years old) considering the blank oval shield I also believe it would be an earlier tested knife.
