If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Alright folks, we got here abut 2 hours early so we grab some t-shirts and get a bite to eat. The Battery was absolutely jam packed with Braves fans, its crazy out there. We've made our way to our seats so we're just hanging out waiting on first pitch. Wish us luck! ::ds:: GO BRAVES

Great start Greg. Now just gotta hang tough and finish!

What's the deal with the bell gong I keep hearing? Something to drown out the Lastro's trash cans, or what? ::shrug::

(Nice AAPK T-shirt BTW!)

Fun time, Greg! I remember the electricity surrounding the park a few years ago, a memory not easily forgotten. Hope you get to see a win! I like the t-shirt you're wearing too. ::tu::

Braves are going to have to tighten up if they don't want another ride half way across the country.
Sometimes you wonder if they can somehow drag the games out for more revenue? ::shrug:: If they play 7 games somebody probably will benefit more.

You are not the only one who has wondered about that, Philip. Considering that each game brings hundreds of thousands, probably even millions of dollars in ad revenue (and stadium beer sales, of course...not an insignificant amount, to be sure! ::paranoid:: ), what corporation (MLB) would leave that kind of money on the table if there was any possible way of...raking it in? (legit or 'otherwise'!!!) ::shrug:: But, what do I know? I just like watching the game. If the players/owners are complicit and somehow able to determine the outcome of each game (which seems unlikely, at best, but not entirely impossible), I really don't care as long as it's a good game (and any "deception" isn't too obvious). But, then, I don't gamble on sports games, so....

One of the most significant acts in the history of baseball:

On this day in 1969, the New York Times reported that former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Curt Flood would sue Major League Baseball over the reserve clause, which perpetually binds players to their teams.

Whether you love it or hate it, it changed things forever.

I remember it well. It was inevitable that it would happen at some point, Flood paid a great price, financially and emotionally, for his actions which led to big compensation for others.
Curt Flood, in addition to his MLB career, was also an artist of some renown. My oldest brother visited his art studio back during the early 70s. He said Flood was personable, but very soft spoken and seemed sad at the turn of events in his life. My brother got an autographed brochure from him that day, not sure whatever became of that.

I recall all that very well. It finally led to free agency for players after several more dates in court. The first official free agent contract was Andy Messersmitt. A 3 year deal with the Atlanta Braves for the unheard of sum of 1 million dollars.
