I got a grab bag off Ebay today with 12 knives, for which I paid the princely sum of $29 plus shipping. There was one little advertising manicure knife, five knives that need either TLC or a decent burial, and six that are functional and somewhat interesting to me.

The first photo is 4 of the 5--an Old Timer with some serious rust, a broken pin and a broken blade; Kutmaster with a tipped blade and no snap; a Camco with a tipped blade, and a neat Kabar that has been sharpened to within an inch of its life (but boy, somebody got their money's worth out of it!). The no-name with a broken blade, weak spring and missing plastic handle was camera-shy.

The Ideal came just in time for K7K's "Eye and Jay" posting.
The Klein looks to be in pretty good shape--is this a pruning knife? The handle is plastic.
The little two-blade gentleman's knife is a mystery to me--the third line is "Sheffield", I believe, and there is "RASER" in the middle of the second line. Nice bone handles.
I already have a 4" version of this little 2-3/4" Anvil.
The Keen Kutter stock knife has been well-used, but has some life left in it. It bums me out that the badge is missing, but the scales have also shrunk some, and probably need to be replaced with some nice bone anyway.
And that brings me to the Schrade Walden whittler, with pretty decent blades, nice scales, great snap--and still probably has some great history to it!

I think I did OK on this particular deal...

I received this one today. Another addition to my Camillus 72 family. A Short Line Camillus 72, has the black stagged composite handles which was produced with no shield, and is 3-5/8" closed. It has the Sabre Clip, Coping blade and pen clip blade, All blades are full, have no wobble and great snap. The handles have very little shrinkage with no warping. The blades do have scratches, and the bolsters do have light scratches & rubs. But all in all for the age I am very satisfied with it.

OK, I'm going to expose my ignorance here. I've been able to pick up on a lot of things, but I am clueless about the therm "short line". What does that mean?

Thanks

It refers to Camillus tang stamps. After WWII, they underlined the word Camillus on the tang stamp with a short line. Sometime in the late '50s they changed the tang stamp to a long line that completely underlined the word Camillus. After a change to Camillus in italic font, about 1990 they added a long line above the word Camillus which is called by some the double line stamp. This is a pictorial of what I'm talking about.

Click on the picture twice to see it full size. The stamps in question are at the bottom of the picture.

Starting to pick up knives again. This one was in the mail when I got home. E. Wieden Scout made in Germany. Picked it up from our very own AAPK store.

Anyone have any info on E. Wieden. Only thing I could find was a pdf on cutler marks and brand names of German knives from 1850 to 2000. Nothing on dates the actual companies were in business.

Also if anyone is interested here is the link. Pretty hefty file. 130 pages.

Like BH, Q, and Dan, I really like the Wharncliffe blade. When I saw the Finch "Holliday" posted by Dan, I drooled for several weeks...and then pulled the trigger. I wanted the Ox white smooth bone, but they were out, so I humbled myself and went with the Snakewood. Man, am I impressed with this knife. Smooth as butter on opening & closing. What a well designed knife with outstanding aesthetics. THIS is my new EDC.
