I am justly humbled Ike. I thought that I alone enjoyed bleak, wintery countrysides. While I enjoy all the permutations of nature, I doubted few would be attracted to today's iteration of winter, e.g. no sun to spangle the snow, no star-filled night sky, etc. So I have learned a lesson today, one of the great things about our AAPK. The lesson? The human personality is complex, not to be taken for granted nor easily estimated.

I know there a quiet a few members on the land, and others who enjoy some of the photos i post from over here, just found this on an email from a farming magazine sent to me everyday. I thought you may find it interesting, it just struck a cord with me when i saw it, it really reflects some good healthy Australian livestock. :)

My wife and I trailered 7 of our finest hogs to the Grasshopper valley for processing. Weather was good, but a headwind going over Badger pass. Road up to the processor was icy and had to really feather the throttle in 4 high and not spin the tires. They weighed between 250 and 290 skinned and halved, at 20 months old. Customers are excited, most are return customers. Our pork meat is red like beef, and tastes nothing like store bought pork.

It was well worth getting junk mail for that view.

Doing a little maintenance work on my cast iron this weekend....I re-seasoned a skillet and a dutch oven for a friend so I figured I'd touch mine up while I was at it..5 layers total.. they'll be good to go for a long time now...

I've always thought it would be cool to use cast iron. I know many who do and they say the results are great. The problem in that Becky does most of the cooking, and the dang stuff is too heavy for her to lift without it hurting her hands (arthritis).

We like cooking with cast iron. I think it is illegal to cook cornbread in Texas unless you do it in cast iron.

Over the years, my mom gave my wife pieces of Le Creuset cookware for every Christmas and birthday, until we have amassed quiet a nice set. We love cooking with it, but as we age, the weight is getting more difficult to handle. My mom - at 83 - really struggles to use hers any more. The 7.25 quart Dutch oven (which we use a lot) weighs over 13 lbs empty. When filled with food it is well over 20 lbs.

The generations that went before us knew, except they did not know at the time, cast iron, the best way to cook. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

I agree 💯%, buddy!👍 I was fortunate enough to have had my father teach me how to take care of , reseason and refurbish cast iron cookware.. I have several Griswolds that we're my dad's.. also, after my dad passed away my mom met a gentleman that is part of our family now that also is into collecting etc.. cast iron cookware... He is really into it! He has dozens of all sizes, shapes ect.. that he uses, refurbishes and gifts etc... I can fry an egg in any of mine with just a tiny amount of oil... I use them daily 😄..

Mike-- there's nothing like cornbread or cornbread cake baked in cast iron!👍😁

What kind of oil do you use to season with? I usually use flaxseed oil but have had good results with other oils, also...my mom's boyfriend uses bacon grease on all of his and I cook with his skillets at his house and camp quite a bit..they have ba little duller finish than mine but otherwise seem just fine, non-stick and clean up easy
