Some great memories and a great photo, Ryan.

We are brothers under the skin Steve. My dad wasn't military but we lived 15 different places, plus one twice, by the time I was 17 years old. Ten schools in 12 years. At this point in my life I've lived 40 different places. Only acquired one lasting friendship from my school years and he's wasting away due to Alzheimer's. Did acquire a few lasting friendships that are still active today, during my enlistment in the Corps. I too have wondered what it would have been like to live in one place for my entire growing up years or maybe my entire life. ::shrug::

Jerry, when I was about 13, Dad came home and said we had orders. I had to leave a real good friend and it tore me up. It's been really hard to get close to anybody since, even 45 years later. Me doing 20 in the AF certainly didn't make it any easier. If I wasn't getting orders, my buddies were.

We are having some friends over for Christmas and making authentic Shabu-Shabu, a Japanese hot pot. I was in charge of the meat. I have never had A5 graded Japanese Wagyu before, really looking forward to it. My friend is making 3 broths and providing the hard to find ingredients.

Received my order yesterday, overnight. Thin sliced clod(front shoulder)

Thanks Ryan, we are really looking forward to it. Your brisket sounds delicious! Interesting way of cooking it.

My friend bought a hog off of me in Sept. and is bringing some belly too. I have not tasted this round of my special breed, but my feedback from customers has been amazing.

I wasn’t the child of a serviceman, but dad was a coach. Pretty similar. By the time I was twelve years old we had lived in four different towns, each one successively bigger than the last.

Ryan, my wife has a similar brisket recipe using coffee. Brew one to two cups of coffee (leftover brewed coffee works also). Slice a large onion and place about half of it in a large pan or pot. Place a trimmed brisket in the pan, fat side up, on top of the onion. Place the rest of the onion on top of the brisket and pour one to two cups of the brewed coffee over it. Sprinkle with season salt like Tony’s or similar.

Cover with foil (seal the edges) and put it in the refrigerator, allow to marinate in the coffee for several hours (four hours is good, eight is better). Preheat oven to 275 degrees, put the brisket (still in the foil sealed pan with coffee marinade), cook for at keast 6-8 hours or overnight. Remove foil, pour off most of the juice (save some for sauce). Pour a bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce over the brisket and put it back into the oven uncovered for 20-30 minutes Remove and let sit for 30 minutes, slice and serve.

Your guests will not believe you didn’t smoke it!

Hey, moving is moving. Doesn't matter the whys or what-fors.
I was blessed that I was able to continue to do well in school, made friends pretty easily, and had my two younger brothers to keep from getting lonely and bored.

Sounds very good! What I use in my dry rubs and in a lot of my cooking is instant coffee Believe it or not... I'll also use it in deer or beef brines.. dark gravies etc...

This moving topic is interesting that is the number of times some folks have moved. Miss Joy and I have had 4 addresses in 54 years. Our 1st address was 2615 South Goldenrod Rd where we rented a small/tiny house from my old uncle, we built a house up the road from Unkie's a couple of years later at 2330 South Goldenrod Rd., lived there several years and escaped the Disney onslaught and moved to Rt 1 Box 273 Chipley, Florida. After about 10 years we moved across the pasture and built a new house and have been in it for over 35 years. We've had the same home phone number since 1973. We have no experience in moving compared to lots of folks.
This discussion could bleed over into how many jobs have we had over the years. After active duty I have had 4 real jobs, 1 year working for a large farm, 5 years land surveying, 3 1/2 years for Water pollution control agency and then 35 years for school district maintenance. (Part time row crop farm, cow/calf operation, and tree farm isn't included). Time flies when you're having fun! ::tu::

Just did a quick tally:
16 addresses before joining the AF in 1980
15 addresses since

31 addresses in 58 years = a different address every 1.87 years!
Granted, that does include only 6 weeks in Lackland for basic training, 4-5 months at Chanute for tech school, and a few other places that were "temporary", but, hey, I still had to pack my bags and go!

We just moved back to our hometown in North Texas this summer after 25 years in Tomball (northwest of Houston). We could not be happier to be home again.

I just got a new toy for the new workshop. I'm supposed to get my lathe chisels tomorrow, after many shipping delays. It shouldn't take 2 weeks to ship a box of chisels from California to Texas! I have had the lathe for almost a week, and test drove it with some regular wood chisels (which you are not supposed to do). I feel like I have a new car with no tires! Come on, Fedex!

Here are some pics from my dog walk today. I know that most don't care for winter, and I can understand that, but it is my favorite time to be out. There are no mosquitos, deer flies, ticks, chiggers, turkey mites, Copperheads, Moccasins, Rattlers and no oppressive heat and humidity, and the scenery is still great, just a little different.
