Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Appreciate it Floyd. I just wish someone had taught the original owner the correct way to sharpen a knife. ::dang::

It sure is Skip. ::tu:: Besides being a variation of the 72 pattern, I also have a hankering for the Craftsman name. Especially in the older tools, back when Craftsman meant quality.

As a child (and adult) I used to love to find someone's family bible and read the place where they recorded the names and dates of births and deaths and marriages. I saw this on Ebay and realized that someone had created a family genealogy knife. They had replace the handles of this old Craftsman 9494 with metal and had stamped the names and birthdays of family members (I suspect). It seems to have been a user so they would have it with them all the time. I thought it a very special little knife. I wish I knew the stories of each person. Thanks for looking. ::handshake::

Very Cool Floyd. It amazes me someone in the family didn't want to hold on to it. Makes ya wonder if those were children's names or grandchildren, or siblings.

Today I add these two, CAMILLUS 72 variations to my collection. First up, a CRAFTSMAN 9494, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. Next up is a POWR-KRAFT, 3 blade, swelled center, milled liners, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. Even though the POWR-KRAFT isn't stamped as such, it is a pattern 84-11. Both needed a good cleaning. I took some pictures and here they are.

I must say, that's a pretty cool idea. ::hmm:: ::nod:: I see so many SS knives on eBay. ::hmm:: I'll have to kick the thought around for a while. ::hmm:: Maybe I'll copy cat that. ::hmm:: ::shrug:: Not sure if I love the idea or find it odd. ::hmm:: Might be cool with Grandparents & Parents names & dates. ::hmm:: Could use both sides of the knife to get all six on it. Three per side. ::hmm::

Cool find though Floyd.! ::tu:: Congrats! ::handshake::

I'm going to post this one here as a variation of the 72 since it has the bone handles. Received it yesterday. A Camillus 72 Swell Center Whittler late production with Black bone handles. It has the Camillus double line tang stamp with the same stamp design on the shield. It has the black bone handles, and shows no wear or evidence of ever being sharpened after production. The blades are tight, no wobble and great snap. They have the original finish, but do have some minor age spots on the blade and springs. The blade well is clean. The pictures were taken after removing it from the shipping carton. I've done nothing to it other than oil the blades.

Today I'm adding these three CAMILLUS 72 variations to my collection. The first two variations pictured, I bought from doglegg, aka Floyd. Thank you Floyd. ::handshake::
The first variation is a CAMILLUS 72, black bone, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. The second variation is a CAMILLUS "YELLO-JAKET", 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. The third and last variation is a KUTMASTER, green bone, 3 blade, swelled center, milled liners, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. The KUTMASTER has the letter "V" (VANADIUM STEEL) stamped on all 3 blades. None of the three pocket knives needed any cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here they are.
