Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I pick up a couple of NOS 72 variants over the last couple of weeks. Both new in the box with paper work. A Remington R 14 and a bone handled Ole Smoky.

Tommy the keyword there is had. You useter have one but in January of 2013 you had a fit of generosity and sent it up north to live. And I appreciate it very much.

Added this one to my Camillus 72 Clones family today. A McGrew Arkansas U.S.A. swell center whittler. It is like new with the original box and papers. No cracks in the handles, blades have their original luster, no wobble on the blades and beautiful snap. I took these photos right after taking it out of the box.I feel lucky in finding this one and very stoked to add it to my collection.

This one arrived in my mailbox today. Another Craftsman 9494 to add to my 72 clone pile. Plan on making this one an EDC. The blades are tight with no wobble or looseness, and have great snap. I had to do some cleaning, and de-gunking, and the smaller clip blade had some kind of black substance on the tip. It does have scratches on the blades but The main problem with this knife is that someone used a course stone on the Main blade along with the small clip blade, and if you look on the pile side of those blades, looks like they got too close to a grinder. Dang shame, because the blades still have some of their original luster. The coping blade is in good shape. I believe I can clean the blades up a little more, might be able to lesson the marks a bit. The handles and bolsters are in great shape, no cracks in the handles and little wear and a minimum of shrinkage. I got it at a good price and can live with putting in a little work to make it a good carry knife. Plus....who doesn't like a 72 pattern or one of the variations? ::tu::

Very Sweet PB. That will make a great EDC. Seems to me that the blades are often abused on the 9494's. I guess as they were bought as a tool. That one will serve you well. ::nod::
