5111 1/2 L SSP 3 dot from 1977 no serial number?
Is it possible to have a 5111 1/2 L SSP 3 dot from 1977 without a serial number? Apparently only 1000 were made.

I assume you are referring to the pattern number. Perhaps the Case experts will chime in. To my knowledge, Case started stamping pattern numbers on all their knives around 1949, and the only ones I have seen from after 1949 without a pattern number were worn off, or for some unknown reason, they had been removed. Can you post a close-up picture of the pile (back) side of the blade tang?

The pattern number should be on the back of the tang. I'm not certain as to the production numbers for this, but I do know that even at 1,000 pcs it doesn't mean it will be serialized.
Hope this helps.

I tried to do some research on this and came up with nothing. It will be interesting
to see what the experts say.

If I remember right (not always) Case made 15,000 Blue Scroll
sets...and...1000 more sets with scrolled bolsters
Can't help on the pattern #

Only the 1,000 of each pattern made with engraved bolsters had serial numbers.

Steve is 100% correct as usual. 1000 serialized made WITH scrolled bolsters. The production number for the un-serialized examples is 17,000 as I recall.
I do have 5 examples of the 1000 that exist and one in fact is without a serial number.
