Case Elephant Shaw Leibowitz
Case Elephant Shaw Leibowitz
Afternoon all
I picked this up the other day and Case knives are not really my area (Hard to find out in Switzerland)
Just wondered if this was done by Case or is it a 3rd party special edition on Case hardware either way nicely done but it would be nice to know.
its a Case 6250 elephant toe knife 5 dots under the USA
Any info would be great

Re: Case Elephant Shaw Leibowitz
Welcome to AAPK. That’s a beautiful knife.
Shaw-Leibowitz was the husband and wife team of Sherrill Shaw and Leonard Leibowitz. They did custom engraving and plating of firearms and knives, using the “lost wax” technique. Some of their work was commissioned by private individuals, some by businesses and clubs (knife and firearms collectors clubs), and some by manufacturers like W.R. Case & Sons among others. The Shaw-Liebowitz company was dissolved and the couple divorced in 1983. (Information is from an article written by Sherrill Shaw and published in the September 1911 issue of Knife Magazine www.knifemagazine.com).
(Side note: in that article the author laments that the advent of inexpensive computerized laser engraving made it difficult for them to compete. Laser engraving is shallow when compared to hand engraving but since most sales are done via pictures the customer can’t readily tell the difference.)
I don’t know how to tell whether your knife was commissioned by Case, or by an aftermarket company like Shepherd Hills Cutlery, or similar. Someone here may know but if it was my knife I’d contact Case and ask. You can send an email with pictures to consumer-relations@wrcase.com. Please come back here and let us know what they tell you.
