Way to go, cody6268!cody6268 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:43 pmMy Granddad originally worked for a dye plant; and then the company closed the local plant; and transferred my Granddad to just outside Charlotte. That didn't last long, and my folks moved back after less than a year. After that, my Granddad worked for Pittston Coal Co's Jewell Ridge mine from 1974-1983, when he was laid off. From then on out, it was mostly sales and purchasing positions with two different smaller firms (one a guy who owned several mines; the other a company that sold and serviced mining equipment) until 1998 when he retired to help my grandmother raise me. And in those positions, he often did have to deliver parts and equipment to mines in Southern WV and Eastern Kentucky. Since COVID, I've been largely giving his old suppliers my business instead of Lowe's. Surprisingly, even with the ups and downs of the coal industry, most are still in business. And they also sell really good quality tools from Klein, Proto, and S&K. Not the store brand import stuff Lowe's does. Not to mention; at one of them, I got the normally $10 a piece China-made GE flourescent tube bulbs from Lowe's as US-made Sylvania for $2.50 each Tuesday.63rdOVI wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:29 pmThanks, cody6268! The old NMSCo knife you have sounds pretty awesome.cody6268 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:27 pm
Love that Scrimshaw!
I have that second one (NMS did a LOT of business around here), with the older marbled dark red handles that shrink (Celluloid?), but it's in really rough shape. Bought it here locally as a work knife, and use it as one. It replaced a two-blade Electrican my Granddad gave me as a kid (which I still have, but retired). They did do a Case one as well (logo etched on spear blade), which I guess they gave to thier better customers.
My own grandfather was a coal miner in southern West Virginia and carried numerous tools; the last work knife he used in the mines was a 1940s American Boker Congress with really worn-down blades. I carry it occasionally. I bought this Colonial just to honor him. And I have a really nice old Case 13031L but it doesn’t have the NMSCo logo.
Woodwalker said it well!
Those both look great!

Very nice Garry!

A triune of 3 awesome knives, welcome back to the pack Jerry
