A couple of 6265 SAB knives
I try and keep to the KA-BARs but I cant pass up a good Case when they come by. Noticing a couple of slight differences between the sheathes and the knives. Any way to date them closer than 1940-1964

Wow! Real beauties you have!
Noticed the nail nicks on the clips blades are in different locations, this might help some dating them.

Those are awesome, folding Hunters are the bee's knees in my book. Just make sure you get that green stuff off, it will pit the bolsters. Dale taught me that, and unfortunately I have proof.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Yes I've since cleaned the vertigris dry with a microfiber cloth. Looks very nice now. I've had a couple fixed blades along the way with button snaps and guards with vertigris. Stubborn little stuffMumbleypeg wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:06 amNice find!1967redrider wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 12:16 am Those are awesome, folding Hunters are the bee's knees in my book. That “green stuff” is called verdigris, come from the acid (tannin) in the leather sheath reacting with the copper in the nickel silver bolster. You can get it off fairly easy with something like Hoppe’s #9, Ballistol or similar (even WD-40 might work) on soft cotton cloth along with some elbow grease. In any case you do need to get it off. Then do NOT store knife in contact with the sheath for more than a few days.

Yes those I beauties.
I will venture to bet there is no model stamp on back of the main blade of the green one.
I have one very similar that is a single blade non saber clip 6165 or 5165 that I believe to be second cut bone or stag based on color, etc. It is in Steve's second edition book in the 65 pattern section. That is one of my daily carries.
Can post a picture or here is link to some with more floating around this sub forum...

Thank you Sir. That knife slices like a razor. Love that steel. Your knives are real beauties as well.
Model number present or not I think that is very high probability of second cut bone based on jigging and color. Second cut bone and stag have unique jigging and more importantly, the handle die created unique colors based on density compared to first cut. Scarce knife in my opinion. I have a second cut XX 65 that is orange in my color opinion. Think it it is second cut stag. Either way second cut. Another EDC I have left pocketed for about 6 months daily. Love a 65 for a big carry.

Re: A couple of 6265 SAB knives
The one on the left has the older "high pull" clip blade and the handles appear to be second cut green bone.
The one on the right has the newer regular pull on the clip blade, and appears to have "late Rogers" bone handles, scarce to find on the 6265.
That style of belt sheath dates from the late 1950's to early 1960's.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts as to second cut on the high pull Steve. Still knocking off the dust from my forum hiatus but that bone color was obvious to me as second cut. Pretty knife for sure.
Thanks for the valued input. Hope life is well.

Re: A couple of 6265 SAB knives
Interesting, the knives came with the sheaths as far as I know. Do you think they were purchased after the fact for the knives? Strange they were paired considering the timeframes?knifeaholic wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 7:36 pm The one on the left has the older "high pull" clip blade and the handles appear to be second cut green bone.

Re: A couple of 6265 SAB knives
They both could be correct for the sheaths - no one really knows when the change from "high pull" to regular pull occurred. The two blade styles may have been made in overlapping years. Case in those days always sold the sheaths separately; the knives were sold individually without sheaths.Pile Driver wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 7:48 pmInteresting, the knives came with the sheaths as far as I know.
