Over the last couple of days I have had 5 of these little guys parading down the middle of the street in front of my house. They must have hatched in the last few days, and are using their instincts to try to find their way to a pond down at the end of our block. When I picked them up, they were a little "parched", so I put them in a coffee can with a little water in it and that revived them pronto. Note the size of these snappers compared to a quarter, they must be right out of the shell. I took all 5 down to the pond and dumped them in.

Oh, very cool picture! Never seen such a small snapper. Look how loooong the tail is.

Your loss, my gain! Spätzle is a rich egg noodle (I think it’s the way it’s cut that makes it unique to Southern Germany, Austria and surrounding area - they have the same thing in parts of France, but as with most things the French have a different name for it.) Bratkartoffeln is pan fried potatoes, usually fried with a little onion in bacon grease or butter.

If you didn’t like those I’d be very surprised.

Great pictures, Ike! The old houses are really neat but I've got a question. It appears the ferry is guided/tethered to a cable system, how does that effect other river traffic?

When i was a kid we had a ferry service at the mouth of the major river at the port's in Melbourne. It pulled itself on a large steel chain, from bank to bank across the river, about 400 yards, there was never a problem with other boats or river/ocean traffic. All the ocean going ships, had to go over the crossing area, i think they could drop the chain to the bottom of the river when the ferry was stationary at the pier on either side. It carried loaded and empty trucks, cars and passengers, the cost was 80 cents per car and driver and 20 cents for each extra passenger, i do not know the cost for trucks. I went on with my dad and our car a few times, it was fantastic, like all kids liked anything to do with water, and anything big and loud, and was it loud under load. I am posting a photo of it taken in 1960, going from the Port Melbourne side, a tough dockside suburb of inner Melbourne, which has now become Trendy. If you look at the photo carefully you can see the chain on the left and right side of the ferry. Hope this helps you with your question.

Well if we are posting pictures of stuff how about an older picture
of the Windsor Mansion Ruins located close to Port Gibson, Mississippi.
They burned when a guest at a party tossed his cigar into a trash can.
I took this picture a long time ago.

I was totally unfamiliar with The Windsor Ruins, amazing. I read the history of it after your post, very interesting, especially the Civil War connection. That they found a sketch of the mansion more than 100 years later, to reveal what it looked like after years of conjecture, was a lucky break for historians.

The movie was Raintree County. Released in 1957 starring Montgomery Clift
and Elizabeth Taylor. Was considered a flop because it lost money.

Nice Cannas, my parents always had those at one end of the garden.
Here is a much smaller flower, about the size of a pencil eraser, a tiny Frog Fruit bloom magnified a few times.
