Any info on this old long pull large swell end jack?

This was my grandfather's knife, tang stamp dates 1920-1940 but I'm having a hard time finding much info on this exact model. It's a fairly large swell end jack with a longpull spear blade and what might have once been a spey or pen secondary blade.

One thing that stands out as kind of odd to me is the pins, especially the rocker pin, seem small to me...? And you can see circles around them either from being spun or, in the case of the rocker, maybe there was initially a larger pin there?

Otherwise it's in great shape and the old jigged bone covers are in wonderfully pocket worn shape. My mom remembers him carrying this and a buckeye for good luck in his pocket every day.

Thanks! Yeah it's pretty cool handling this thing knowing he carried and used it daily. And he did a pretty good job of sharpening it too! No weird wonky grinds or angle grinder gouges lol.

Hi your knife is a 6231. Should be 3-3/4" long closed. That one is likely from the WWII era and may be a military contract knife.

I see nothing unusual about the pins. Yes they were spun which was common by that time, and not uncommon to see those circular pin spinner marks. They aren’t seen on every knife but they aren’t uncommon either.

Beautiful knife, a real family heirloom treasure.

It’s kind of unusual that the center pin is brass whereas the other pins are nickel or steel. Some old Case knives were made with pins that didn’t match however. With the knife not having a shield it probably has iron bolsters, you could test with a magnet. Nickel silver wouldn’t attract the magnet whereas the iron bolsters will. Be interesting to see if the other handle pins are nickel or steel as well. You could get the small blade replaced if desired. Looks like a good solid old Case.

In my experience mismatched pin materials is quite common on older Case. Never thought that would be the case til I started examining lots of them with that in minc.

Miss my grandaddy...and pretty sure he and my father..miss him too...are a big reason why I started collecting case knives. I carry a few that belonged to them and put up a few that belonged to them. That's a nice knife and a great case pattern but because of who carried it makes it so much more. Thanks for posting ...
