case knife case

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

case knife case

Post by NapalmSloth »

I was in Mena, Arkansas yesterday and walked into a mom and pop hardware store. I was looking at his vintage case knives and picked up a 4 dot 6202 1/2. After the purchase, the owner said he wanted to show me something. We walked over to a rather large case containing Case knives. It was like magic to my eyes.
He said he decided to sell it a few weeks ago. He wants to sell it all together, not pieced out. He is asking $12k for it. Its not in my price range, but it was really cool to look at.

Nice find, but waaaay overpriced IMHO. Did you look to see what vintage the knives are from? (I’m guessing late 1960’s or 70’s).

Maybe he meant $1,200, not $12k? Yeah, I know - just wishful thinking.

Last time I was in Mena I had some decent Cajun food in a little MomnPop restaurant. Don't know if it is still there but it was a better buy than those knives.

That's a nice bunch of knives, but........do the math. ::hmm:: At $1200 it would be a decent buy.
Hey, maybe the back side storage is full of NIB knives! ::shrug::

He said $12,000. I had asked him to repeat it because I thought he meant $1200.

I agree with yall. Way over priced.

What do you guys think this is worth?
I agree $12,000 is ridiculous, but isn't $1200 way to low.
54 knives at $50 average would be $2700.
That's now out of range, is it?

I’d say around $3500 - $4000 would be reasonable. Not a bargain, but not bad either. Pluses are the stag fixed blades (and one stag folder). Minuses are there are 14 fixed blades taking up space in lieu of more folders. Folders generally (not always, depending on pattern) have higher value. If the knives on the board are U.S.A. or 10-dots, I’d tend toward the $4000 number. If more recent than that, go with the lower number. Variables include condition of the knives and condition of the display case, none of which can be seen with much definition in the picture. I’m assuming both are in excellent condition. JMO

Thanks for the input Ken.
That's more inline with what I was thinking.

a lot to think about on this one doesn't look like all the knives are from the same era. How many Bone ,Stag & then Delrin which hurts . No 88 pattern but looks like a Stag Cheetah which will help . I just busted up a Case Board almost like this except they were all USA . When you get through and find all the spots from being on the board & chipped or cracked handles . MOP is maybe $2100.00 and a lot of work . ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

I agree somewhat mixed... the three in the lower left corner - 5111 1/2, 51051, SR6347..are newer.

But the basic display looks like XX era - look at the two 65 patterns...both XX frame. Also there is a 6345 1/2...discontinued in 1965.

Could be XX to very early USA knives, the originals on the board anyway.
