Who, What & Where?

Post by dlr110 »

Here is a small knife I picked up on my recent trip. It looks like the logo says SHELLARARGERS across the top, MILLER on the lower left and SINCE 1776 on the lower right. I've looked and looked, but can't find any info on Who made this knife, What type it is called and Where it was made. Sure would like to hear from someone who can help me with this little mystery of mine. Thanks everyone.

Case made a knife similar to this and in the book it is called a Press Button Slide Blade. Read this link they have operated a mill since 1776. Compare spelling. Is there a name on the blade?

Autopoint made a lot of this style of advertising knife. I don't know if they made yours or not?

They were also made by Gits Bros.of Chicago IL. They stamped the name on the metal slide that was visible through the slot.Here is a pic of one.You can just make out the name inside.

Interesting knife David. My first thought on seeing it was the name is spelled wrong, because my cousin’s husband’s last name is Shellabarger. I can’t tell you any more about your knife except that type of knife is sometimes marked on the blade where it contracts inside the frame, so try looking at the blade down inside the slot, along where the pushbutton is located.

As has been said, Gits was a leading maker of pushbutton sliders. Here’s an old thread about push button sliders, with some examples and more information. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=41823

Thank you Ken and all others that responded. My problem is all the rust, but I'm going to try and clean it up and see if there is anything there. God Bless.

You gentlemen were correct. Once I got all the rust, dirt and grime off of it the stamp on the blade is Autopoint in cursive and the stamp inside was GITS. BROS. MFG. CO. MADE IN U.S.A. PAT.

Thanks for the help. ::handshake::
