INFO NEEDED ON THIS KNIFE

I realize this is not a pocket knife, but I'm hoping a collector has some insight on this one and can share some info. I picked this up at a estate auction. It's a English bowie knife and sheath. O n the blade it has "Crown Cutlery Co. Sheffield". The total length of blade is 7 1/4 inches. Can someone tell me when these knives were made and for who they were basically made for. Thank you.

Did a cursory check in Goins book and it shows Crown Cutlery as being in New York;Austria;Germany;and the Rhineland but no listing for a Sheffield made model.It looks to be circa 1900 but the sheath does not look original to the knife. A mystery for now

Also no information in Levine's Guide fourth edition on a Crown Cutlery in Sheffield.
I'm guessing it was made for a US importer, perhaps a hardware company?

I just picked up this CROWN CUTLERY Co. SHEFFIELD folder last weekend, so someone made both fixed and folding knives. Thought for sure Goins would have some info, which it did, but not on a Sheffield location. Iron pins, liners and bolsters with the "Square and Clean" blade joints, mentioned in Levine's 2nd Edition Page 272. Old stag scales, 3 1/2" closed.

The Crown Cutlery folder is definitely an old knife, pre 1900 by quite a bit. It is odd that none of the reference books list this name with a Sheffield location.
LG4 page 325 shows an old Sheffield Bowie with a somewhat similar long clip profile blade. On page 324 Levine says that brass fittings were never used on 19th century (1800's) Sheffield Bowies but were used on English counterfeits made in 1960's & '70's.
The guard on this Bowie looks like brass. If it is then this knife was likely made after 1900. If guard is nickle-silver than this could be an 1800's Bowie.
A Bowie knife collector or one who has studied Bowie knives, is needed here to properly assess this knife. I hope one shows up.

The guard looks to be nickle silver rather than brass. I have never see an older knife with this type guard that was made of brass. I would say that c.1900-1930 time frame is a pretty good guesstimate. A nice knife but an early Bowie hunting knife rather than a Bowie knife. Given the diversity of countries that Goins lists I would think a safe bet to say an importer and New York City was a common place for such importers to be located. Any knife I have ever seen with the Crown Cutlery stamp was good quality and the OP knife is no exception to that. Folding knives with this stamp are diverse reflecting the country in which they were made. Many of pocket knives with the New York stamp and wood or early patterned celluloid are fine examples. I wonder who made the Crown New York pocket knives?
