Nice pictures Roger! Gotta sell a lot of knives to pay for one of those combines.
Cost more than a new house.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
You can say that again Ken!
$600,000+ for the new John Deere S790 or any other of the largest combines. Tack on another 100 grand for any of the German brands. New 4-Wheel drive tractors cost $600,000+, tack on $100,000 for tracks option. New tandem grain truck, $100,000+. Large air seeder and air cart $1,000,000+. Grain cart $100,000+. Swing grain auger $30,000. Smaller grain auger with mover $20,000+. Mid-size tractor with loader and front wheel assist $150,000+. Heavy harrow $30,000+. High speed tillage machine $100,000+. 4000 bushel hopper bins with air $15,000+. High way tractor with super b grain trailer $250,000+. Large high clearance self propelled sprayer $600,000+.
Need I go on ….
Farming big with new equipment is un-affordable for most people. Best is to farm smaller, with older, used machinery that you payed cash for. And if you have to buy land (even in my areas low prices), completely forget about grain farming. You might make it if you inherit land, or get reasonable rent. What I would do in this day n' age is raise lots of cattle. You need very few machines to run your operation, and you can rent/buy cheap grass/swamp land. It just super back breaking work running 100+ head of cattle. And none of us are getting any younger ….

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Doc, that's a nice pic of that anole lizard.
We bought a Ring Pro doorbell this summer. My wife has a lot of plants, foliage on the front porch, so anole lizards and the geckos like to live in them. We leave our porch light on at night, so there are plenty of bugs for them to eat.
The Ring doorbell is motion activated and pings your smart phone. We have been getting woke up at 3 in the morning by a gecko staring us in the face on our smart phone from our doorbell camera.
We also saw a possum walk right up the side of our door on the bricks. I am assuming he was going after a gecko. So we are capturing a whole food chain on our doorbell.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
We used to have a bunch of green anole lizards around the house in the flower beds and shrubs but rarely see one nowadays. Still see them in the undergrowth and trees along the creeks farther away from the house and buildings. I think the guinea fowl have cleaned them out around the house just like most of the snakes.
We still have a lot of frogs and some toads around. My theory is that they're out and about more at night when the guineas and chickens are asleep. The anole being a daytime critter is easy prey for the guinea fowl.

Unk, you can disable the alerts to your phone on motion in the Ring app on your phone. It will still record on motion, and alert when the button is actually pushed. That's what I did - I got tired of the phone dinging every time my wife took the dog for a walk.Unk wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 3:20 pm Doc, that's a nice pic of that anole lizard.

Thanks Twoflowers. We have played around with the sensitivity settings, and have them set to where it seems to work pretty good now.TwoFlowersLuggage wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 4:04 pmUnk, you can disable the alerts to your phone on motion in the Ring app on your phone. Thanks Mrwatch for the Crinoid pics and for a trip down memory lane. I used to spend a significant number of hours beachcombing along Lake Michigan in Sw Michigan, free entertainment and you never knew what treasures, including Crinoids, would show up. Especially good hunting this time of year before the lake froze.
I never made it up to hunt agates in Superior but still hope to someday, however, the clock is ticking.....

I live near the lake shore. although this is a farm near me. The pile I found this in he said was from around 12-14 feet deep. Dug deeper this summer with his crane. Beach combed Lake Superior last year a little. Visited the mineral museum and several rock shows.Waukonda wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:43 pm Thanks Mrwatch for the Crinoid pics and for a trip down memory lane. Is this girl good or was this the 1 in a million shot?
This is one of my granddaughters at practice, notice the Robin Hood shot with one arrow hitting another. Her coach swears it's for real.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
treefarmer, In fact this tree was left up precisely for wildlife. But it has developed a huge crack inside the largely hollowed out interior and is now a real threat. One huge branch recently fell. So it is time to go. We do have one more dead tree which is not in a risky spot which we decided to leave up for woodpeckers who visit it.

Oh Ken you just made me so sad!!!
I had a 1968 Hardtop Mustang, Canary Yellow and black interior with a 289 HP engine and manual 3 speed transmission. I love that car and thought I needed to trade for a larger car with I got married and after our first child. Why didn't I keep that sweet car?
