Case XX R6215 SSP Gunstock 1987
Does anyone know anything about this knife aside that it being a R6215 SSP Gunstock 1987 and the font on the blade stating "Far Heel Cutlery Club"? I cannot find a single knife like this. Mainly what is on the blade makes me question the knife.

jss, I think that is 'Tar Heel Cutlery Club'. Probably their 1987 club knife.

Tar Heel being a North Carolina native from somewhere in the Tar River Basin.

That makes more sense. I thought it said "Far" not "Tar" haha.

That script T does have an F look to it. It is certainly a knice knife either way.

"Tar" because of oil in the sand or shale ?

Roland the area in and around the Tar-Pamlico river basin was rich with virgin pine in America's discovery and became an area where pine pitch was made and exported for tar production. The river flows to the port of Wilmington, thus the name Tar River.kootenay joe wrote:"Tar" because of oil in the sand or shale ?

Thanks Greg. I have seen "Tar Heel" on Fight'n Rooster knives and often wondered what it referred to.

KJ, there's also a prominent college there (University of North Carolina)...they are known as the Tar Heels. That's where we hear the term used the most, especially since they've had very successful basketball and baseball teams.kootenay joe wrote:Thanks Greg.
