I recently sold this one to a forum member, but it is an unusual and seldom seen "oddball" variation of a Case 6392 stockman.
If you are familiar with older Case knives, you will know that Case only applied the CASE logo tang stamp to the main blade of each two-blade and three-blade knife. Some four bladed knives (88 and 052 patterns and Fly Fisherman) had two "master" blades, so each was tang stamped.
But Case would never stamp the Case logo on the sheepfoot, pen, or spay blade of a three-blade stockman.
Well, almost never.
For some reason during the late 60's and in 1970, a very few examples of the 6392 and the 5392 had the Case logo stamp on the spay blade in addition to the master clip blade (the sheepfoot blade tang was unstamped).
This is the only example of such a knife that I personally have ever owned or held in my hand. This one has the CASE XX USA stamp.
My only theory as to how this odd "factory error" occurred is as follows.
During the time that Case made these odd 92's, they also produced the small "budding" knife, 1116 SP. Small single-blade knife with a spay blade.
I have owned a number of examples of the 1116 SP, and not one has had a pattern number stamp, though of course each had the usual Case logo stamp on the blade.
It is possible that some of the tang-stamped 1116 SP blades ended up being installed in 92 stockman patterns.
