Case Tested 63045 PL

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Anybody seen one of these before. I found a couple photos but they had the older wr case and sons stamping. Any info from the experts would be appreciated.

These were contract knives made by Valley Forge. All if them I have seen were stamped WRCase & Sons. They were made later than that era as the ones I have handled are also stamped Tested XX but your blade looks like it is stamped Tested XX on the front tang. Better pictures will help. Possibly a replaced main blade.

Thank you. Heres a better photo of the tang stamp.

Master blade should be a spear and not a clip blade.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Master blade should be a spear and not a clip blade. Could likely be a Valley forge knife with a Case Tested blade installed.

Or maybe a wr case with the master replaced?

Any idea of value if it was an all original wr case version?

If original W.R. Case it would be in the high hundreds of dollars or more in depending on condition. Valley Forge plier knives in decent condition can bring hundreds in their own right.

The small utility blade should be stamped whether Case or Valley Forge. Are there any markings on the small blade of your knife? It is far more likely your knife is a Valley Forge that has been altered than a Case knife. Unlikely that an original W.R. Case stamped short pull spear blade would be removed to install a Tested stamped blade.

I'd have a hard time believing that main blade is original. Like Wayne said, needs a spear, not a clip. And it has big pitting on top of the patent on the pliers. My valley forge I sold on Ebay about a year ago brought $210

As others have said, the main blade should be a spear.

Also, that clip blade is not a real Tested blade. Cheaper blade that has been restamped.

Here are links to earlier posts on AAPK where the 63045 pliers pattern has been discussed. For what it's worth, I think "PAT APLD FOR" should be stamped on the fixed pliers handle. My assessment is aligned with what I perceive others have said which is the OP knife is likely a "parts knife" vs. a factory original.

The knife is obviously not original and I am quite sure it is was a originally a well used Valley Forge knife that has been reworked in an effort to falsely enhance the value. Only thing Case about the knife is the fake master blade. Shame to see it listed for sale here on AAPK.

In the event someone might be interested, here is a link to an ended eBay listing of an example of the Valley Forge pliers knife that Case used as their re-branded 63045 PL pattern. On the Case rendition the blades would have a Case mark and maybe the shield would be different, but otherwise the Case knife would be identical.
