The Indian Paint Brushes have been tricked in to thinking it's spring. Pretty much in full bloom, on my drive to the ranch, yesterday.
Entrance to neighbor's drive...A few Bluebonnets are starting to pop...won't be long , for them.

Looks like I need to put a little grease on the legs of my feeder...

They date back to the late 1700's in Hungary, bred a fatty pig with wild, almost went extinct in the late 1990's. Rare hogs, similar to the Iberico of Spain. I also raise Gloustershire old spots, another rare breed that almost went extinct around the same time. High quality pork for high end restaurants and whole hog bbq competition.

My first though was dog, then bear. Hog was way down the list. Around here, our pigs are pink. Even the Vietnamese potbellied pet porkers have a thin coat. Mind you, it doesn’t get nearly that cold either!

I see that he’s a boar. How’s his temperament? I assume he’s your breeding stud and will be around for a while. Is he easy to handle?
The potbelly we had at the zoo could get pretty aggressive when he wanted attention. He was still young, and only about knee high. Little brat had a habit of running up behind me and digging the end of his snout into the back of my calf. Hurt! He was a real suck, always wanted to be petted and scratched.

Thanks, he is pretty aggressive and I am the only one to go around him, probably about 500lbs. He was running full speed behind me the other night in the dark, through deep snow, as I was in front running and I just about went down, he would have got me pretty good, made for quite the pucker factor. He somehow recently broke one of his long tusks, which he has stabbed me with before. He does have a very nice personality every once in a while and I like him. Right now, he is actually curled up with one of the sows and a few others, which is the first I have seen. He also has a winter and summer coat and I should mention he is unbelievably fast and cunning smart.

I have had him for years, he has always been the same, we have a good relationship and he responds well to my deep voice.. He's good stock and a good breeder and will likely stay his duration here, but sometimes I carry a HK compact .40 JHP +P just in case, but mostly just a knife on my hip. My sows are way bigger and can kick his butt.

I don't trust animals of any kind. Even the most placid can turn on you in a heart beat for seemingly no reason at all. I think it all goes back to when I was 5 years old and was chased by a milk cow in the barn lot. I don't recall doing anything to provoke her but of course, that's been a couple of years ago. This is one of those situations where I would take no pleasure in being right. Shuttin' up now boss.

Thanks John, here one of our sows in upper pasture last summer, she will be due soon from a Mangalitsa boar, this will be our signature breed.
