Case Customer Warranty Service Experience
Today I received back 2 1960's railsplitters (3299 1/2) from Case that were rehandled at no cost to me under their "limited lifetime warranty". Both had celluloid handles that were well along in the disintegration process and were probably starting to "out gas". I was going to rehandle them myself with exotic wood, as I have done with a number of other similar celluloid handled knives, but I decided to give Case's warranty program a try. Needless to say, I am totally blown away by the job they did. It was a bit of a process to work through, but once these knives were approved for their program all I had to do was wait. As you can see from the pics, they even returned the original shields to me at my request. I couldn't be happier! FYI, I did try to sweet-talk them into putting bone scales on these, but no dice.

WOW, no other word but WOW! Those look brand new. Were you the original owner or did you purchase those second hand? Wondered how that program works if you buy one off of eBay or private party?

herbva, looks like the effort was worth it. Great work by a reputable company. Those turned out fabulous.

These were in my collection for a while. I bought them used, separately, on "the bay", and the handles were showing some deterioration and shrinkage when I bought them. Fortunately I stored them "in quarantine" apart from the rest of the herd. More recently I noticed that the rate of deterioration was starting to increase and I knew that I had to replace the celluloid before the knives were destroyed. As I recall, the Case warranty repair application form did ask for quite a bit of information, but I don't think they asked how long I had owned the knives or where I got them. The ones I like to disassemble and rehandle are usually in much worse condition than these two, and I am glad I went through the process with Case!

Your knives look fantastic. They did a real nice job on those. Good to hear that solid customer service is still alive and well. Very happy for you Sir.
Save those shields in case you ever get another Case knife re-handled. They're scarce.

Those are absolutely fantastic! It’s really amazing that CASE is still honoring that warranty too, especially since there have been a couple of changes of ownership. What a way to step up!
The 99 1/2 is hands down one of my favorite patterns. And while I love bone and stag, there’s just something special about a “yaller” CASE.

Really glad they did a good job for you. They did a rehandle on a Yellow Delrin Doctor's
knife about 3 years ago. One side started to chip away on itself and changed color. They charged me
$30.00 (which included blade sharpening)

Looks like they did a great job for you. I've had a couple taken care of as well and they did an amazing job.

I've sent several knives back to Case for various repairs and have always been happy with their service and professionalism. One thing you might note here. If you send a 1970's era knife in to have new handles put on that had a shield with pins they will not replace it with a shield with pins. They will put on modern handles with a glue in shield. That may not be true on all patterns, but I sent to early 70''s 47 patterns in to have new bone put on them. They did a great job but the knives came back with the modern type bone and a glue in shield. They will tell you they do not have parts inventories going back to the 1970's and have to use what they is in stock today. In a way I wish I wouldn't have sent those knives in and just kept scouring ebay for a donor knife with good bone handles and shields with pins. I might still be looking though.
