Case slimline trapper in CV

Really impressed with a recent SS Slim line trapper from Case I was wondering if there are barehead version in CV out there other than the yellow plastic?

I'm pretty new to Case knives and their models having only carried and used Bucks since a kid

Sometimes also called the Farmer's jack. These were made in a single blade (61048) and two-blade (62048) versions. The more recent ones have jigged Delrin handles, the older ones were bone. There are a couple for sale in the AAPK stores. You can find them on eBay sometimes also. Over the years the 048 has been made with wood, stag, Delrin, and just about every color of bone handles you can think of.

The 1st knife I actually bought for myself was a Case Slimline Trapper in CV. I carried it all through high school and left it at home when I went to spend the summer at Parris Island in 1964. My dear old dad claimed my little knife and this is how I found it after his death in 1979. I have since had a new blade installed. I have several Slimelines with the Delrin handles, both brown and yellow, but they just don't compare to the bone handles on this one.

The 048 has been made in both capped and barehead versions and with both CV and stainless blades, so no, 61048 doesn't always mean CV and barehead. As far as I recall the older (pre-1970) versions were barehead with CV blades. Sometime thereabouts was when stainless blades came into popularity and capped versions showed up even later I think.. Someone here (Steve Pfeiffer aka knifeahic) probably knows exact dates.

If it's older than 1970 it's likely to meet your requirements. Any later, you better look at the knife or ask.

Edit: just got home and looked in Steve Pfeiffer's book. Says stainless steel was first offered as an option in 1965 and were numbered 61048SSP and 62048SSP, respectively. CV was discontinued around 1984 or 1985 (it was reinstated recently as an option though I'm not sure exactly when). The version with cap bolsters apparently started appearing in the late 1980s.
