very cool tested knife lot

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

This was the subject of a thread last week. Most agreed that the asking price was ridiculous.

36 knives for $22,000 = $611 per knife, high for a buy of 36 knives. Maybe even high if just buying one of these knives ?
But, wow, are they ever nice, mint knives from when Case made some of the best USA knives. I would love to have 1 but i don't need 36 so i will save my $22,000.

For that kind of $$ I would want multiple pictures of EVERY knife, unwrapped. If anyone bites, they are taking a leap of faith ...

I am curious for those in the know that are familiar with the actual value of that pattern, what the book value of an unused knife would be.
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

And does a box of 6 still wrapped knives increase the value of each knife because 6 mint together in original box is more rare than one mint example ?

The going rate for a mint 6231 is somewhere between $325-$425. I would think there would be a bit of a bump in that if you owned a full box of the knives in their wrappers. One thing to consider on these listed on Ebay is that some of the knives in each box are black composition handles I believe even though they are listed as black bone. I don't think Case ever had any black bone in the tested era.

Waaaay overpriced IMHO. The uniqueness of owning them at that price would be a lot like going on a safari - you'll have a trophy to show off, and you could sell it but you'll never see all the money again.

I contacted the seller(s) and they are selling the story more than the knives. I wished them well.

The listing states: "Local pickup and cash payment preferred".
So, spend $22,000 and then have very little or no recourse should there be a problem.
