I have about a dozen bikes but didn't have a tandem until this weekend. It was put together wrong from the start and that apparently caused the seller to not like it. It's all better now. I got it for $50 which I thought was very reasonable. ___Dave

Cal's (tongueriver) recent post about Jimmie Rodgers reminded me of listening to him with my grandpa on his old Victrola, on 78 rpm records. I still have his old Victrola (hand-cranked - needs no electricity) and a bunch of his 78 rpm records. Can't lay my hands on the Jimmie Rodgers recordings (they're here somewhere) but found several others including another favorite of his, Vernon Dalhart. Dalhart preceded Jimmie Rodgers and many consider Dalhart to be the very first Country recording artist. He was the first to make a record that sold a million copies, (Prisoner's Song).

That looks like a lot of happy dogs! I've never seen a Golden as red as that one in the back-center of the pic. Makes it look like an Irish Setter. I like Goldens, although I must also say that I've known a couple of Goldens that were not the sharpest tools in the shed. Very sweet, but also kind of dim...

Many dog breeds have been affected by bad breeding practices, especially by those who breed for show. For some years Cocker Spaniels were so dim it was said they could get lost at the end of their leash.

John, I've got some pictures of my son riding that road. He never mentioned seeing the dragon but he did mention somewhere there is a "tree of shame" or some such with motorcycle parts hanging all over it. I was thankful when he got off the motorcycle kick!

Been there and done that and somehow survived, although I did it after I gave up riding motor sickles. I drove my ole '99 Chevy conversion van and it was a handful on them curves. The wife and grandson said it was beautiful I don't know cause I was busy.

There's only about umpteen+1 ways you can have an accident with a farm tractor.

Occassionally I have to travel from one field to another on the public roads, inevitably with a cutter, bailer, or disk harrow in tow. I always have my hazard flashers on. I pull over as far onto the shoulder (or into the ditch) as possible so drivers can pass. During which time I've been buzzed by motorcycles and little old ladies in cars, honked at, flipped off, and so on. It's amazing how big a hurry folks are in nowadays. The more city slickers move to the country, the worse it gets.

Back in college, a good friend of mine was killed on a very foggy Morning when he slammed his VW bug into the back of a tractor pulling a big disc harrow on the shoulder of a farm road. I have no doubt he was traveling much faster than was safe for the conditions. Where I grew-up, the Tule Fog is notorious for zero visibility causing huge pile-ups on the freeways. The schools will actually shut down for fog to keep the buses and parents off the road.

Ken, what is the orange implement on the John Deere, a PTO powered pump?
My biggest problem with tractors is gettin' hit with limbs and/or tying up with green briars or grape vines in the woods when working on food plots or mowing woods roads.
Speaking of rides, Miss Joy got a "new to her" ride. Gave her SUV to one our daughters and she decided on a sedan for a change. It's a '17 Ford Fusion w/8000 miles. There are things on this car that we will never use or be able to figure out, ain't never had a car that doesn't need a key.

I had a Fusion as a rental for a couple of weeks when my car was in the body shop. I liked it! Ride was great and the interior was very comfy.

Don't know what that is. It does look like maybe a pump. It isn't my tractor nor have I ever overturned one. I was just responding to the posts about motorcycles and their dangers. A tractor is plenty dangerous enough for me - don't need a motorcycle too!

My tractor gets hit with limbs sometimes when I'm running a shredder under trees - having a cab keeps em from hitting me! I also have an open station tractor though, so if I'm mowing with it they do sometimes hit me. Always have to be on the lookout - I've had my hat knocked off and into the shredder before. If you're getting tied up with green briers (I hate them) or other vines, well you need a bigger tractor! I've heard folks complain before that they wish they had bought a bigger tractor, but I've never heard anyone complain that they bought one too big.

When we were using the shredder, we mounted a big sheet metal shield behind the tractor seat. Rocks and other junk would PING! off that sheet metal constantly.
