Mr Watch, I think it would take me about a week of steady work to cut my lawn with that little mower! Pretty cool.

After 14 years, I decide to set my workbench back up. I took it down when I bought a new pick up that I wanted to park in the garage in 2004.

While setting it up this weekend, I found some old tools that have been handed down to me.

The old Stanley try square has been in regular use all my life. It was my Dad's, and I remember using it as a kid in the 1960s (and it was old then).

My old chalk line is a Dandee Reel, made in Minnesota. It is missing the plumb bob.

Interesting story on the Kennedy tool box. My father in law was a machinist at Bell Helicopter for 30 years. One of his co-workers was retiring back in the late 80s, and they were raffling off the guy's tool box and his tools for $5 a ticket. My FIL decided to buy a ticket at the last minute - and what do you know - they pulled his name out of the hat. My FIL already had a couple of Kennedy tool boxes...so he kept the tools, and gave me the box.

I still have some boxes of tools to unpack and hang up, but I am making progress. I splurged and bought the Craftsman stool today at Sears - my old one bit the dust. i think I am going to like it much better than the old one.

Thanks and my wife has never been much of a boss. WHEW!! When we were exhibiting at tractor and old engine shows I brought some vintage tools and old squirt oil cans. the mower was made in Muncie Indiana. I hope to find how old it is. They make a nice show display. I did not join the national antique tool collectors club, but the do have a chapter close to me. I do have Kennedy tool chests and Snap On.

My father collected antique farm equipment. He had about 50 pieces of horse & tractor drawn tools next to the house. He could also tell a story about every piece of equipment - what it was used for, where it was made, what made it better or worse than a competing design, etc. When he died, the local tool collector's club helped us send all the tools to an auction - where members of the club bought most of the items. We tried to just give the items to the club members that we talked to, but they said no - they wanted all the members to have a chance to get what they wanted, and an auction was the only fair way. I used to have some pictures - I'm not sure whether I still do or not, I will look for 'em.

I used to work at an office furniture/shop equipment place when I lived in Ohio. My advice was always spend the money on the chair as that is where you will be most of the time. And that tool box is quality, a great gift from your fil.

Actually, It has a Rat 1 for cleaning. I used it this morning while I was fishing. Rust from seawater literally in minutes.

Today while exploring the back roads of Maine we happened upon a quirky little hamlet named Liberty. Home of the Liberty Tool Company. The owner has been collecting old tools for nearly 50 years, scouring New England buying old tools. The best and rarest go into his museum, the rest are put up for sale in his store, a most amazing place, at very reasonable prices. The store is three stories high plus a basement, all filled with old tools, plus overflow filling an old gas station across the street.

The owner wasn't there when we were but apparently has a good sense of humor based on the labels on some drawers and bins in the store. You can see some of them in these pictures of the store wares. The museum wasn't open so got no pictures of the stuff in it.

None to speak of. I asked and the guy working there handed me a small wooden box with three or four old worn out knives in it and said "we get some occassionally but this is all we have now". Then he told me to go three doors down the street to the antique shop. Said the owner collects knives and usually has a few for sale.

Went there and picked up a nice old never-used-or-carried Kumaster Muskrat from him, it would have been near mint but appeared someone left fingerprints on the blades and bolsters and put it up for a good while. The blades still retain the original factory finish but have pitting where the fingerprints were on both blades and one bolster. Had an enjoyable visit talking knives with him - he obviously knows his stuff.
