Re: Knife Photography
Nice shot Triple F!
Is that a custom knife?
Looks like you made a good "fuzz-stick" (fire starter) like I taught scouts to make. Looks like cedar too, so it'll smell good when you get it started.

Re: Knife Photography
Thanks fellas.
It appears to be a custom made knife but I got no more info than that.

And it probably won't get burned Floyd as I am making a fork/spoon salad set for my great nephew and his bride to be. Shedoglegg wrote:Scott, that wood is almost too pretty to burn and I have liked that knife before.
has seen some of my previous work and asked how much for a set? Uhhhh, let me see, I'll get back with you!
It'll be no charge of course!
I plan to use the curls/shavings as box filler when I present them for the wedding.

That sounds like a great gift. Very personal, and I have seen some of your other spoons and the are good work. The shavings idea is perfect. Take a picture when you are through.

Re: Knife Photography
Steve in Germany and Switzerland they used to have Schutzenfest in about every community, province and on a national level. (some places still do) Basically a Shooting Fair. The climax was the championship round. One shot at a prescribed distance at the hand painted target. The one closest to the kill shot declared the winner. Mine is from 1935 with the name of each shooter written beside his shot. Switzerland still has them and even puts out a special coin each year. Mine is not a painted target but a printed target. Thanks for asking.Steve Warden wrote:Some very cool pics, doglegg.

I attended Schutzenfest when I was stationed in Germany in the late '70s. They have some very skilled marksmen at those events.

Charlie, I would love to attend one. So far it has been just reading articles and looking at pictures.Sasquach wrote:I attended Schutzenfest when I was stationed in Germany in the late '70s. They have some very skilled marksmen at those events.

They are fun to watch. As I said, some of the shots that are made are amazing. I was going to try to compete but never got the chance, Uncle Sam had things for me to do and then relocated me. If you're a shooter who is into MOA accuracy, you will love it. If you ever get a chance you should go. Hell, I should go again, there was a lot of beer involved back then....I could sharpen my recollection.....or get schnockered again!doglegg wrote:Charlie, I would love to attend one. RIP Derrick, sad to see a giant in the knife world move to the next phase. Will be missed. Good thing I have a few Northwoods around to remind me of him.

Re: Knife Photography
Sad news indeed. Collectors and fans of fine American made knives around the world have lost a friend and mentor. Life is fragile and short, cherish it. God bless and keep him.Ivoryman wrote:RIP Derrick, sad to see a giant in the knife world move to the next phase. Will be missed. Good thing I have a few Northwoods around to remind me of him.

Here are a few shots of the new whaler in both handle materials. The ironwood came from Derrick.

Rookie, nicely shot. The eye level placement and vegetation work especially well in the second shot.

Thanks QS! The mosquitoes were horrible in the woods, I couldn't stay as long as I wanted.

Sweet shot Tony, looks like you stumbled onto some Anasasi ruins or something. Ancient cool. This is Barlow on a wood pile.

Tony, I like the knife, I like the cactus, and I like New Mexico. Great place to visit. We especially like the Taos area.
