GALENA & CALCITE Tri state area Lead District Joplin County Missouri. 108 grams From the Kalamazoo show. galena is raw lead often containing silver which is where the $$$ is. some here liked my last post from my collection. after the show I stopped at a sports store boat dealer. I was looking at the pocket knives when a man walked up to the Bench Made case. Said I need a knife blade less than 3.5 inches mines to long! How about that one? clerk checked and said 3.1. "i'll take it!" and gone. I looked $315 + 6% for the governor.
sorry if that was you reading this. I remember those days

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Well that explains a lot. We have a small town tucked into the Northwest corner of Illinois that's named Galena. I've known for years that there were once lead mines in the area but never made the connection. There is also a small town named Scales Mound just East of there and North across the border in Wisconsin there is New Diggings and a crossroads named Lead Mine. Coincidence? I think not.mrwatch wrote:galena is raw lead

I roast my own.
This was waiting for me when I got home. The mug is designed to keep the coffee aroma right under your nose, thus enhancing flavor (ever notice how you lose your sense of taste when you're congested? Sense of taste and smell are tied together). We'll see. Either way, I like it.

There are those who say that you can find *everything* on the internet, and I think that's true. It's just too bad that *everything* also includes ALL the BS in the world...

QS, you just pushed a memory button with the Winking Glue! Now that's some strange stuff and the instructions for removal, acetone or rubbing alcohol for the eyes.
Let me share my recollection:
We were at a "viewing" at one of the local funeral homes some years ago. Thank goodness I can't remember who it was in the casket. The family was sitting on the front row of the chapel and Miss Joy was talking to them after she and I had walked up to the casket and then turned toward the family. Not to interrupt her conversation with the family, I turned back to the coffin and was looking at some of the pictures of the deceased in their earlier life. The owner of the funeral home and one of his staff kinda' pushed me toward the head of the casket and said, "Stand still right here for a minute!" With out skipping a beat they quickly and discreetly put some "Winking Glue" on one eye of the deceased that had begun to open. I asked what material was used? They explained what had happened was a rather common occurrence and they had used super glue to correct it.
Winking Glue also activates the memory!

This is an old and dying tree. Ground hogs had extensive tunnels under the tree probably destroying many of the roots. Still puts out green leaves on a few branches.

Took these this morning through the window at a restaurant. They weren't more than about 3 ft from where we were sitting, but on the other side of the glass. I guess they're used to people being that close as they didn't seem to be paying any mind to us.

Did you know the lifespan of the hummingbird is only 3-5 years?
Be forewarned, this video is an hour and a half long. I thought it was fascinating.

The motion of a hummingbird wing is absolutely fascinating to me. I'm an aeronautical engineer by education and what the hummingbird can do with its wings is remarkable!
