Knife handle pins, where to buy?
So I'm in motion to replace the plastic scales on a Colonial fixed blade....
It was tough but I removed the scales by sawing the pins.
I had a bag of assorted pins, but of course now that I want them.....they're nowhere to be found.
I've even purchased some Maple for the scales!!
Where do I shop for pins?
Thanks!
P.S. - Should I use an epoxy as well?

Re: Knife handle pins, where to buy?
Scott, those were actually compression rivets in the knife. They have a big head on them that's counterbored into the handle. There's a male and a female side, very tight fit so that when they're compressed together they basically clamp the handle in place. If you're going to epoxy the handles you don't have to worry about all that, the rods will be fine. Just don't forget to rough up the tang with some very course sandpaper, it gives the epoxy a better grip. It shouldn't be necessary to pein the pins either, just make the handles holes the same size as the pins (make sure they fit though). As soon as the handles are glued and clamped, put a little epoxy on the pins and slide them through the holes. Let everything dry, clip the pins, then sand everything smooth.

Re: Knife handle pins, where to buy?
Those are 1/8" pins, which would be .125. They're likely the center pins for the LB7 model knives with the nickel silver bolsters, just can't recall the exact knives right now. The brass bolstered/linered knives such as the LB-7 and the UH line had Brass pins. One end was headed so that all they had to do was cut and spin the opposite end. In fact it was probably already cut to length.just bob wrote:These are the .080 pins with the head on one end.

These are the compression rivets I was referring to, you see they actually spread the walls of the female end, once they're in they never come out, the majority of Schrade, as well as Canal Street sheath knives were made with these:

Re: Knife handle pins, where to buy?
We've been through this before in this forum. The people selling those pins have no idea what size they are or how to use micrometers. I've ordered these before and just went back in to order more that is why I know what size they are for sure. They are the .080 pins and they're almost sold out.

Re: Knife handle pins, where to buy?
Ah that's good to know, that's a much more useful size. They were probably for the pocketknives then. Sure would be nice if they knew how to measure. I especially like when you see a bag of pins such as the compression rivets where they only offer one side, which makes them completely useless. Thanks for the heads up Bob!
