6165 & 6265s

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Nice folding hunters Ed. I particularly like the red bone on the Case. I have a bunch of folding hunters, but only one Case. The 6265SS with brown jigged wood handles.

Thanks guys. After reviewing my initial post I'm realizing that a) I'm new to knife photography and b) one picture doesn't do justice.

Here's front and back of the 6165 XX.

These folding hunters are a real joy to hold in hand. Trappers and FHs were my introduction to collectable knives when I started few years back.

Thanks for checking them out and for the comments too.

Hey Bill, thank you, Fun knife to collect! And yep I had in my notes red Rogers bone too. The jigging is much different than knives pictured in Steve Pfeiffer's book page 210 (e.g. worm groove or second cut jigging). Curious how you or others can confirm it's Rogers bone -- and early or late Rogers?

Late Rogers is red. Early Rogers is brown to mostly tan. I'm not sure if I ever saw a 65 with early Rogers.

Thanks for the reply. You're right: from Sargent's 7th ed. page 19 "Late Rogers: reddish brown to bright red"

Aside from that reference, Bernard Levine's short article in Knife World (No. 119, November 1987) is also informative on Rogers bone made by the Rogers Manufacturing Company of Rockfall, Connecticut.
