If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

The Texas Hill Country is indeed beautiful. One of my favorites places is Enchanted Rock, located just a few miles north of Fredricksburg. Enchanted Rock is the second largest batholith in the world. It was given its name by the Comanche Indians who believed it to be haunted and considered it a sacred place. It is also historically famous for Texas Ranger Captain Jack Hays encounter there with a band of Comanche. http://www.texfiles.com/enchantedrockte ... t_five.htm

Ken, Thank you for the pictures of Enchanted Rock. I had not seen the view of the reflecting pond before.

We were in San Antonio in 2009 to see my niece graduate from Air Force basic training. While we were there, we took a little day trip loop up through part of the hill country. If memory serves me (and it often does not) we hit Pipe Creek, Bandera, Kerrville, Fredericksburg and drove through the Natural Bridge Wildlife Park. Very enjoyable day. I liked that area.

Fine photos. Great subject matter. Steam locomotives were just being phased out by the Rock Island line [...a mighty fine line..] when I was a toddler. ::tu::

Y'all know what happens when some one assumes something. So John, straight up, what is that big red thing in the 2nd picture? Being a resident of Florida, I've not encountered one of those if it's what I think it is ::paranoid:: .

Thanks, John. That's what I figured ::hmm:: . How did all that work? I see there is a cab on the top side and wondered if the plow has any way to move itself or does all the power come from the engine behind it and was there a crew that rode in the plow ? I see it's built very close to the track to keep snow from building up under it, I assume ::paranoid:: , . All very interesting when you don't live where it snows!

That's a cool looking stump. Looks like a dead and decayed guy slumped over a pile of sticks. ::uc::

All highly interesting photos. What tremendous character the older cars had. That yellow pedal car is a trip! Something very special about light houses. I have friends who collect models of everyone they can. I have only visited a couple myself.
