Might as well...

Post by AlexW »

I don't recall that I've ever formally introduced myself on any other forums that I've been a part of, but what the heck...

My name is Alex, and I'm a Tennessee boy, grew up just outside of Nashville. Can't say that I'm an uber-enthusiast when it comes to knives, but sharp pointy things have always had an appeal to me. I'm more familiar with kitchen knives than I am anything else since my dad has taught me everything I know about cooking. I'm currently a college student, and the reason I joined here is to get some hints/tips on restoring a hunting knife that I inherited from my grandfather about two years ago. It's a Western, never been used that I can tell. Still had the factory lacquer finish all over it before I WD-40'd, steel wooled, and polished it. Even have the box that it came with, including the pink slip of paper telling you that it is not a stainless steel knife. Hopefully I can get some pics up as soon as the digicam recharges and get some help identifying it.

Whew...that was a doosey....

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I'm liking the site. I think I've spent about 3 hours today nosing around and already found enough info to refurb an old knife. Now all I need to do is get the pitting out of it.

I'm posting some pics in the Fixed Blade section. I'd load it here, but dial up is a pain, and I'd be here all night otherwise. ::yawn::

  at coalminer. Hi Alex. Glad to see another person join this great knife site. If your wanting to learn about knives, this is the place. Maybe you can teach us a few things too. I can't cook very good myself but, I make a mean glass of water. :D
