I clicked on the JerryD straightened newspaper image and enlarged it. Glanced at it and saw in the lower left, there was a Viagra ad. I thought, that's odd for 1921!! Then I realized it didn't say Viagra.

Yes Dogg. I hear ya. Some of the walls have no joists, just solid redwood stacked side to side. Started to lay floor and realized quickly that an OSB subfloor was needed due to uneven planks. Took days to finish. Came out nice though. Still looking for location of hidden gold...garddogg56 wrote:Jerry that why I love doing renovations on older homes, but man they are hard to fish wire in the walls

That is a picture of Jane Fonda aka... Hanoi Jane.
2016 has had a lot of celebrities die. Some would like 2016 to also take Jane Fonda.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I had a guy who worked for me back in Massachusetts (I live in Texas). He was restoring a very old home he owned there and found an election poster inside the wall - I think it was from the 1860 election. Of course he knew nothing of old posters, but he contacted an auction house that auctioned off old documents. It wound up selling for $28K. This was 10 or 12 years ago.
Pretty nice chunk of change to find in your wall!

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I was privvy to a conversation years ago and I forget where, but it involved gas floor furnaces.
Seems they can be a source for pocketknives.
The conversation was started by the finding of an original Remington trapper lying in the bottom of a floor furnace and was followed by similar, but less lucrative finds of the same type.
They had used strong magnets to fish the knives out or they were found when the furnaces were upended during removal or replacement.
I know for a fact that there is a nice butter knife lying in the bottom of the furnace of the home where I grew up.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I met a lady in a parking lot to buy this. I bought it because it was listed as new and had interesting hands. The lady was long gone when I found out the analog part didn't work.
And then I destroyed it trying to find out why. What's left is perhaps the most accurate digital I've ever seen. And hard as heck to read.
I reckon I'll chalk this up to only buy cheap watches at Walmart or Target where I can verify they work.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
here are a couple of random objects sitting on my desk:
ATMOS clock. Supposed to be almost a perpetual motion machine. It winds itself due to changes in the atmospheric pressure.
This one was made in the 1970s and has never been started, as evidenced by the plastic shipping protector on top. These are a few of my favorite cast iron foundry advertising collectibles.
Hey JERRYD, do you recognize this guy?

So, your ATMOS clock, having never been started, is actually a perpetually immobile machine.

Your Jaeger Lecoultre, Atmos clock is still being made today and cost thousands. most likely the lubricants are dry and have dust in them. it has to be very level and the mechanism is fragile so follow the original instructions if you still have them. if you could find a clock maker properly trained on them expect too pay around $500 to have it serviced.

Timex. Hated or looked down upon by many in the watch world.
But running pretty close to lock step with the clock in my phone.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
A watch is a device for letting one know the time of day and possibly the date.
A small sun dial would work about twelve hours a day.
Anything beyond telling the time is extravagance.
I say that with a $2500 Raymond Weil on my wrist, but I didn't buy it.
