Dave, yes The Victorinox "Bushcrafter" is the knife i refer to and like so much. I think the name has been changed from when i bought it, but it is the same knife.
I like having a saw blade. Sometimes it is easier to saw a branch or twig than it is to try to cut through with the knife blade. However not all saw blades cut well. The 3 i have found to cut and not bind are: SAK, Schrade USA & Schlieper Eye Brand.
The Schrade 97OT "Buzzsaw Trapper" was only made for 2-3 years (around 2000) but with their steel scribe/pick & tweezers, it is one of the very best Schrade patterns of all times. Great gift especially if it comes with the leather sheath (not the Cordura one).
Snap these up as well if you see one: great knife, not that many around.
There is a China made 97OT. I have one but have never tried it out. It looks pretty well identical to the USA one and might work just as well.

Jerry deserves every ounce of these accolades you guys are posting! I cannot say enough, just how generous he is in doing this! Let me show you what he ACTUALLY did!!

Here's the two, beautiful, stag Copperlocks. They actually look better in-hand, than photos can show... My son and granddaughter are going to be gob-smacked! My son already knows what Jerry did and cannot believe it! He will insure these are well cared for and used correctly.

but... in the package was a third knife, marked: For you Dave. I couldn't believe my eyes when this was unwrapped! Prior to this, I have not owned a Case knife. This is a 6111 1/2L Swing Guard. From what I've been able to figure out from the tang stamp, it is a 1975 knife. Beautifully made. It's in my pocket, right now. Maybe some of you Case collectors can explain to me exactly what I have here.

Can you guys believe this??? Seriously. Who does this?!? This is so outside of the normal, for people to do. Jerry, if you read this... I cannot thank you enough! Unbelievable!

Howdy Fellas!
Nevada Jerry and I had a nice long talk on the phone today. What a great person he is! We had about a 90 minute call and talked about... knives (haha...!!), hunting, work, AAPK, charities, our military and some other topics. It was a lot of fun to talk to someone that you've traded forum posts with and then finally get to hear them tell stories or explain something firsthand. What I found out is.... that Jerry and I, have a lot in common, besides just knives. One thing I forgot to ask him though, is if he does any fishing. I suspect he does, he told me he has the Humboldt River, just a stone's throw from his place there.

We're going to stay in touch.

You've got yerself there a gin-yoo-wine 1975 (5-dot) 6111½L "Cheetah" lockback in that gorgeous deep red jigged bone Case absolutely perfected (IMHO) in the 1940s-70s. It's an absolute beauty, and so are those two stag lovelies! That's a nuclear bomb from Jerry alright!

Dave, you received many good knife recommendations, so you can have gift knives ready for her birthday, Easter, Summer Solstice, end of school year, etc. You will be known as "Grandpa Knife", if not already, and your grand daughter will have a fine knife collection.

Edit: here is a picture of my daughter, now 11, but 3 1/2 in this picture, holding a Tom Krein Bulldog. It's a heavy knife so i made sure she had her boots on in case it got dropped.

kj, that's a great photo of your daughter! and I agree with Quick Steel, very smart to have her in boots. My granddaughter is in love with the outdoors and is studying bushcraft. I got her 2 books on it, plus an extensive knot tying book and 200' for mil spec 550 paracord to use and experiment with. She's going to end up knowing more than me about it in a year or two!

I predict my granddaughter has more knives coming from me in her future.
