Case 6205R XX Bone Color
Case 6205R XX Bone Color
Was finally able to add a 6205R XX era to my collection, pretty close to mint example, some minor pepper spots not too bad for age of knife.
Was curious about the bone color, mark side looks brownish green with the pile side having more reddish tones. I have Steve's book and I'm just not sure what color you would call this one.

John,
That is a nice knife. The bone is what I would simply call "bone". It is not what most consider true red bone. True red bone from that era would have matching handles on both sides. Maybe someone will come along and post some pictures of some true red bone knives. Your knife would be listed as "bone" in most knife price guides. It is still a very nice knife and one to be proud of owning.

I usually refer to the more golden color bone like that as "chestnut" bone. It is different from what Case currently markets as Chestnut bone. But remember during the XX era Case was not making bone in any particular color, its just the random variations batch to bach as to the dye and how it affected the bone, and how the final hafting brought out the true colors of the bone.

Thank you all for your help. I was pretty sure that it was just the regular bone but wanted to make sure. Case knives are a learning process for me and I really appreciate your input.

That's a real nice XX era knife you have there. It's a great knife whatever the color is.
