Any other CASE canoe collectors out there?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

The original blade on one just like your Zebra. Took 30-40 minutes. I put a masking tape line where I wanted the new edge to be. Then ground parallel to that tape line from tang to tip on a bench grinder, very lightly going over one side, then the other side while trying to keep the same angle on the edge as if I were just sharpening. Dipped it in water after every pass. Took off very little on each pass to keep it as straight and uniform as possible and not overheat/burn the metal. When the blade is the finished shape, then I sharpened on a Diamond block to clean up the edge and make it shaving sharp.

Thanks a bunch, appreciate the compliment. Q said it's his favorite Canoe now and that's the best review there is.

Here is the only canoe I've ever seen that was originally equipped with a Wharncliffe blade. It's a Buck Canoe-Moose. I guess that makes it a "canoose" or maybe a "moonoe", eh? ::rotflol::

The handle scales are fossil mastodon ivory and Chuck Buck's signature is etched on the Wharncliffe blade.

I love the canoose! Very cool knife.

This AG Russell was called a canoe by the guy I bought it from, but it looks more like a punt to me ( https://www.google.com/search?q=punt+bo ... w&dpr=1.75 )

I believe the "canoose" was a Buck - A.G. Russell collaboration.

Here are a couple of Keen Kutter canoes. I believe Bear MGC made these knives under contract or they own the Keen Kutter trademark now, I could be wrong though. The quality, fit, and finish are mediocre.

I have some Bear MGC products that are top notch but I have others, like the canoes above, that are not so well done. I've often wondered why their quality varies so much. ::shrug::

Picked up this interesting United Gunboat Canoe with a sheepfoot secondary blade recently. Strange looking bone (if that's what it is). Anybody know where this was made? (country of origin)

Unless I'm mistaken, the knife was made in Japan. The handle is bone but I'm not sure what they call the color/jigging. I've heard it referred as both "stag-bone" and "antique bone" and less frequently as "fossil bone". They are so similar to the Parker IMAI Japanese made knives that I wonder if they are made at the same facility. There's probably a connection there somewhere.

My "expert opinion" and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee! ::rotflol::

That's a nice Carl Schlieper Eye Brand, love that European stag. The Japanese United is nice too.

You've started a fleet of wharncliff canoes? Nice Ivoryman! ::tu::

What will you call your personalized pattern? The wharnnoe? The Ivory Coast Canoe? The cancliff? The possibilities abound!
