Case Bose Collab's
Any other Case/Bose collab fans out there?
My collection is growing sell, decided to mainly collect the whittlers and cattle knives. The knives are some serious contenders for the custom knife makes out there.
Still missing a few select whittler variations and and several cattle knives.
If anyone has any that im missing I would trade my doubles, EBONY/CHESTNUT for something I don't have.
Well, hope everyone enjoys the photo's

Guess these aren't the type for this page..
Re: Case Bose Collab's
That's an impressive pile you have there XxTxX. I only have one lock back wharncliffe whittler, which I like very much; but, I paid a lot for it and it had several issues that required factory repair. As nice as the Tony Bose collaboration knives are, after that experience, I doubt I'll ever take a risk on another one unless I can hold it and examine it personally first...just too expensive to buy online.

I read that awhile back, I guess I locked out with mine. They seem up to standard. Price is high yes. But they have Bose name on it.. He sells $1800-4000 knives

Re: Case Bose Collab's
A few months ago when visiting my nearest Case master dealer they had a sale on a number of knives with some good markdowns, including some Bose collaboration lockback whittlers. I've held off buying one for several years due to the high prices and was further discouraged by Q's experience with his.
I asked to see one of the lockback whittlers, and was impressed with its fit and finish, and smooth-as-butter operation. However it's still a lot of money and the wife was with me, watching me examine the knife. (Sorta like going fishing with the game warden.
)
I handed the knife back to the sales guy and went on to pick up what I went there to get (it's a large hardware store). Don't know how or when she did it but my wife bought the knife and gave it to me for my birthday a couple months ago. This version is what they're calling antique bone.
Maybe I got lucky (or Q didn't) but I'm very pleased with mine. Definitely a cut above usual modern day Case production fit and finish, and reminds of the outstanding workmanship and quality you got from Case 50+ years ago, but with the addition of 154-CM steel.

Yes that is antique bone, quite the birthday gift. I have been lucky with all my bose to date. As with anything I think these bose are getting better with age.Mumbleypeg wrote:A few months ago when visiting my nearest Case master dealer they had a sale on a number of knives with some good markdowns, including some Bose collaboration lockback whittlers. from what I hear the collaboration with tony bose just gets better as he teaches and learns them on his techniques.
I believe the cattle knives are to date the highest quality.

Bob, don't confuse the Bose collaboration knives with the regular Bose patterns case puts out. Yes both are fine blades, but the collaboration are more up to standard with the actual Bose custom work, these typically go between 300-600$ Depending on the handle material/pattern. These are usually built with more premium materials and steel. And my honest opinion they blow he standard case knife away.garddogg56 wrote:A guy over at Blade forums says the new smooth bone teardrop on sale at Shepardhill with pattern#TB62028 on the pen tang is a Tony Bose design knife is this true?? thanx Bob
I have heard horror stories of bad collaboration knives. But I owned at least 20. With overall satisfaction
Re: Case Bose Collab's
I would have to agree that the collaboration knives are far superior to the TB "pattern" knives by a wide margin (no contest, really).
XxTestedxX, I didn't see any of this Yukon pattern in your collection...might want to check it out.

Re: Case Bose Collab's
I have had 6 of the Case/Bose collaboration knives. My favorite by far is the Norfolk Pen knife which i do not see in the above picture. The Lanny's Clip is another top notch pattern but mine had blade play so i sold it at a considerable discount. My Yukon was issue free but i did not really like the pattern so i sold it as well.
Four of the six had 'issues' which is not acceptable for a knife costing over $300. I would not buy another one without being able to handle it first.
Actually with GEC turning out so many fine patterns and my about 35 GEC knives all being issue free, and the prices being on average about 1/3rd that of a C/B collab, i doubt i will ever buy another collab knife. My bet is that many others will be doing the same; i.e. passing on the collabs and going for the GEC's instead

Re: Case Bose Collab's
I've owned a total of 4 Norfolks and I still have one of them in Chestnut Bone. I currently own a Cattle Knife in Antique Bone as well. That is the extent of my experience with the Case/Bose collabs.
All 5 of those knives were/are of excellent craftsmanship. I like the "upgraded" blade steel, the pinned on shields, (they should do that on all their knives anyway) the mill relieved liners, the brushed stainless bolsters, and the fact that they are as close as I'll ever come to a full custom Bose knife.
Ten years ago I would have bet my next paycheck that I would never spend that much on one knife. I have no regrets doing so but I doubt if I'll ever buy another one. Not because they aren't great knives but because I'm happy with the two that I still own and my spending habits have simmered down quite a bit in the last few months. Then again, if anybody can tempt me it's Case and Tony Bose.
I don't have access to my photos right now but I'll try to remember to post some this evening.
Great pics in this thread! Thanks for sharing them.

Your Norfolk has the nicest bone i have seen on one of these. You have a superb knife there sir.
The Cattle knife is the 2015 knife , correct ? And 2016 is yet to come ?
I do not find this Cattle pattern attractive. It seems 'blocky', no flow or grace to me. Others might see it's simplicity as pure beauty ? Is it selling well ?

The Cattle knife is indeed the 2015 collaboration knife. I believe the 2016 model is a single blade lockback of some sort. Not yet produced. These usually get released around October or November each year.
The 2015 Cattle knife is an unusual pattern for sure. I see it as one of those knives that you either love it or hate it. I honestly thought it would be the best selling Case/Bose collab to date but I don't think that's the case. The price might be keeping some folks away as well as the design. It's one of the highest priced collab knives. Probably mostly due to its 3 blade design.
I like the Cattle Knife very much myself. All of the nail nicks are on the mark side. All three blades have half stops. Sunken joints (or very near sunken) and I like that it's based on a pattern that isn't seen much anymore. The blocky design is one of its best features in my opinion but its not for everybody. I'm not sure how well it is selling but I know there are still some new ones out there just a click away.

I agree 100% about that Norfolk. If I could find one like that for sale I would probably have to suspend my rule about not buying any more expensive knives online...that is one sweet little knife.

Re: Case Bose Collab's
Some great looking knives y'all posted.
The lockback whittler is my favorite. A very difficult knife to make.
I have two that are on the trade block, looking for the lockback whittler from 2005 and more cattle knives.
Y'all keep posting some more pics of the Bose

Re: Case Bose Collab's
Rick, I have the same Tony Bose Cattle knife as you with the antique bone. These pictures are somewhat redundant with yours. I wanted to show the tolerances and how tight and snag free this knife is. The fit and finish is very good.
A minor complaint for me is with the sheepsfoot blade. It is difficult to open and it rubs on the other secondary blade when opening and closing. Does anyone else's example exhibit the same behavior?
The main clip blade has excellent snaps to half, open, and close. The secondary blades have strong snaps to half and to open. The secondaries don't snap as strong to close.
I really like the fit and finish and the overall feel of the knife. The operation of the clip blade is superb. The operation of sheepsfoot blade is decent, but not perfect

Re: Case Bose Collab's
Ralph, those are some excellent pics! I really like the jigged bone on your example. Nice coloring on both sides.
My sheepsfoot blade is a little harder to open than most of my Stockman type knives but only a little bit harder. I blame that on the low profile blades when closed.
The joints aren't sunken but I think Tony was aiming for as close to sunken as possible. That design causes the nail nick to sit real close to the bone which doesn't provide the amount of leverage I have on most of my sheepsfoot blades. Sheepsfoot blades on Stockman knives often tower up over the other two blades causing some folks to complain that it sits too high when using one of the other blades. But on those there is plenty of room to get up under the nail nick. On this Cattle Knife I don't have a problem getting my thumbnail into the nick but there isn't much room to get under it.
So I see it as a trade off. The sheepsoot sits nice and low on this pattern but the trade off is that it's a little harder to open.
Very nice knife you've got there!

it's all about priorities, I'm a bottomfeeder who spends hours scouring eBay looking for low ball deals on late model Case's at way under retail ($50 is about my cap unless it's something special I have to have).
