I bought a knife and need help with it. It is what I would call a peanut or very close. the main blade is stamped Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. the back is stamped 089. I have never posted pictures before and I am sure that would help. It has a shield but not like any I have seen looking for info on this knife.
Thanks,
Darryl

What Ray said.
And Welcome to AAPK!
I'm not a Cattaraugus collector, but a a simple "089" is not, I think, a valid pattern number for them. Their numbering system was more complex.
I do have a catalog reprint, which I just went through, page by page. I didn't see a single knife with a three digit number.
We need some Catt people to jump in and we all need to see some photos.
If you can photograph your knife and upload the pics to your computer, then you can upload them to AAPK. It's easily done.
Nice, clear, in focus photos, taken straight on, no weird artistic angle shots.
If you can get them posted, one of us can edit them with a photo program, if you don't have such.

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery i.d.
I have a 2 blade style jack with the # 3299...
which doesn't make much sense since 3 indicates the # of blades, the knife is very nice. looks old/but pro cleaned and has that old pretty bone which is so hard to find, wonder If they ever made pattern errors.
Case XX makes errors like that now that make it past QA, older knives like the catt I have now were mainly work knvies and pattern # were just a number. something that wouldnt deem any relevance to quality. much like small errors like mix/matching pin material. wrong liners etc.
I'd hate to see a knife get bashed over a number when everything else about said knife is beautiful. I will post this knife up later.
Just not looking forward to the charade "says 3, should be 2, its fake, end of story"

Darryif if you post with a ipad or iphone all you have to do is 1 click on attachments then 2 add file , then your phone should say camera,or video ,or files ,3 then push camera,4 take the picture, 5 push the check mark,6 then click on add file.
Repeat if you want to add more.
It's easy once you've done it once.
