If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

I have heard the Southern tip of Illinois frequently referred to as "Little Egypt". There are small towns with names like Cairo, Thebes, Alexandria, etc. The English Prairie part of Southern IL is a little bit North of Shawnee National Forest. Most of Illinois is quite flat and fertile land. The glaciers from the last ice age formed the majority of the Illinois prairie landscape. The glaciers stopped just short of Southern IL so it didn't get "flattened" by the glaciers. Southern IL has the Ozarks foothills landscape. The people came from KY, TN, Carolina, Virginia so the culture reminds me more of Appalachia than the Midwest.

JerryD is from Harrisburg, IL which is very near to the location shown on the Quarter.

Here is a good link for some more information. The hunting and fishing is good in Southern IL. The whitetail deer provide nice trophy scores.

I've been to Cairo which is at the confluence of the Ohio river with the Mississipi. For a considerable time during the Civil War Cairo served as headquarters and major supply depot for Gen. Grant.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

Larry those orchids are beautiful, orchids look almost unreal to me.

Q those impatiens resemble laurel that grows here.

If I remember right "Little Egypt" was once a center of vices and was the recipient of the worst tornado in US history. If I'm remembering right it actually rained frogs from the tornado.I looked it up,nothing in this about frogs, but this:

" blew for 3½ hours across 219 miles." "It killed 695 people "

"After the storm, Partlow writes, survivors wondered why they had been the target. “Some laid the blame on the region’s lawless reputation, rationalizing that Egypt was a lightning rod for divine retribution intended to clean up the gun battles in the streets, killing of striking miners, lynching of blacks, bootlegging rackets, and gambling.” Whatever, Partlow says, the tornado sank the region’s economic prospects for decades."

I recall Granddad, Dad and my Uncles talking about The Shelton Brothers Gang and their conflict with the KKK and Charlie Birger (a Jew of Russian birth) and his gang. Little Egypt was the center of the Prohibition gang wars of the 1920s. Charlie Birger lived in Harrisburg Illinois and it's said he allowed no crime in Harrisburg.

Thanks Jerry. In the small town ,where I was born ,the coal mining boom brought about the same influences as in "Little Egypt".

Instead of "retrieving" that, I would have just let it pass.

They take crappy pictures anyway.

Have one of "the kids" check to see if the camera is set to the Macro-Mode. That's for close-ups. That issue sounds more like PICNIC to me.

Jerry, just read your response to tommy and I see y'all are having a picnic. It took me a minute to realize chairs and cameras are used at picnics :) . I've been invited to the picnic many times .

Problem In Chair, Not In Computer. ::poke::

Tommy, it's very likely Macro is not a button or switch on the camera but a setting in a menu somewhere in the camera. PM the camera name and model and I'll get the instruction manual online and look it up for you.

Jerry - could it have been an ID-10-T or One Delta Ten Tango error too?
