21051 LSSP Question

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

21051 LSSP Question

Post by TexasMoose75 »

Hello - This is my first post on here, although I have floated around for sometime using the resources. I apologize if I do anything uncouth here that is not standard on posting.

I am trying to get some information on what these scales are made of on this knife...

I am almost wondering if they were added on at a later date. You can see when looking at the bottom of the knife that they are bowing and breaking.

Anyone know what this material is?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Texas Moose.

No idea what the handle material is but it is a definite non factory "re-handled" example you have. Looks like it may be some type of exotic wood. Hard to tell without knife in hand. CASE never made a handle like that in 1977' and CASE did not glue on scales/handles. As you notice, they are no pivot pins or handle pins visible. Re-handled and glued on.

The pattern number indicates slick black handles or maybe even a black wood on this particular knife/year if I recall correctly.

Great Pattern. Nice and lightweight. Called the 'Backpacker" or "Hornet" depending on whom you ask.

Again, welcome! Please stick around and ask away.

Regards, Jerry
