Seeking information on set of case knives 1972

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Seeking information on set of case knives 1972

Post by Cmywheels »

Hello, I'm seeking information on a set of 23 case knives made about 1972. There are 5 fixed blade knives and the rest are folding pocket knives. All knives have stage handles. There were maybe a 100 sets made but I'm not sure. Thank you.

Cmywheels, there were 2,000 # 1 Sets made of 23 knives 5 fixed blades and 18 folders ( USA to 10 Dot ) and also 700 #2 Sets made of 12 knives 5 fixed blades and 7 folders ( USA to 10 Dots ).
These sets are very hard to find because most people that bought them could sell the knives individually for more money.

Larry, thank you for the information. It seems I have the #1 set of 23 knives. I know condition is everything and would say the set is near perfect. They never been outside of a safe in a knife roll. Would you venture a guess to market value sold as a set?

Cmywheels, I also have the 1973 collectors set that you speak of. A few years ago, I was offered $4000, which I believe to be a good price. I just wasn't ready to part with them at that time. Should you decide to split them up and sell them individually, I think you could get a bit more. Just my personal opinion, Tim

Tim, thank you for your information. I have not really decided yet. My father and I collected knives when I was young. I have a lot of 70's case knives some are collector sets. They just sit in a safe. I guess one day I'll part with them. But like you say it's not time.....yet
